This is better than Christmas! Just confirmed the purchase of my first California :Nailbiting
Can't wait to plan my excursions (and general disappearing for a weekend with the dogs), have told hubby he can come too if he wants, I'm just ready to live the dream.
Any tips?

Welcome to the forum and congratulations but spill the beans, are you getting a T5 now or ordering a T6?

Well done, is it 180 dsg 4motion? Nice Cali, let's see some pics when you get it. :thumb

Yes.

Granny tip number 1: Take the dogs, leave the husband

Granny tip number 2: Nothing ridiculous at all. You are about to acquire the best escape module on the planet. Let it rip.

Granny tip number 3: Don't tell husband where you are going. Swear the dogs to silence.

Granny tip number 4: Sell the house. You don't need it. Tell husband later. Buy him a Toyota prius as compensation.

Hello LOTL and welcome to our world :thumb

Nearly arrived in your world..............
So the plan is (HOPEFULLY!) for my beautiful, shiny, sparkly, VW California SE 180ps DSG 7 Speed to arrive tomorrow - so HOPEFULLY just 1 more sleep.
However 'hopefully doth butter no parsnips' as it may not arrive til Saturday (ferry crossing from dealer being a nuisance)
Begged & pleaded to take it with me on Saturday for a solo visit to family in Macclesfield (so not going that far really) but hubby wants to give it really good polish and make sure I'm clued up on everything before I can go anywhere, he is right but I am feeling a little like a sulky child :sad

Smashing - hope it goes well for you! Tips... Enjoy your Cali and check out the forum... lots of great information from lovely people.

"Hubby wants to give it a really good polish and make sure that i am clued up on everything". Are you sure that he's not showing a bit too much interest in your new toy?

I am in love :happy
Cali arrived Friday night with a speedy handover from VW Man on the driveway (thanks to the forum I actually knew more than him!!!)
Slept like a baby in there Friday (yep on driveway!) & drove over to Macclesfield with my daughter on Saturday to a fancy dress do & got 2 waves! Both slept in there Saturday & had to kick teenager up at 11:20am Sunday - far too comfy!
Can't wait for the weekend.........:bananadanceimage.jpg

Drives like a dream & any worries about driving a 'big van' evaporated within the first mile - why oh why did I not do this years ago????

Hello from Macclesfield!
Don't wait to learn everything before you go. Be spontaneous, live on the edge and go for it! :shocked
Just make sure there's Wifi to use this forum if you can't work something out :thumb

image.jpg Hi Skylark!
Left Macc 18 years ago but still get butterflies when I turn at Kings School & see my beautiful hills ☺️

Ok peeps, so sitting on the driveway this evening reading the manuals and supplements and leaflets and nowhere can I find what these buttons ares Probably something dead simple/obvious...........or not?

Hi, these are for the Bluetooth hands free system. You can use them if you do not have steering wheel controls. Not used mine but I know the button with the microphone lets you do voice commands for making calls.

Sorry, just seen the picture more clearly. This is different to mine I think.

The spanner is for vw assistance. I've never pressed it but assume it's a direct line to vw assist?
Can't remember what the other ones are for....need to get the manual out. Thankfully haven't needed to use them yet

The spanner button automatically posts a disgruntled message on the forum (I think!)

I'm going to live dangerously and go press them...:Nailbiting
(actually hubby can do it & get the blame:Grin)

I have finally found out what these buttons are for.....
Star button: hands free phone
i button: info on VW and add on services
Spanner: breakdown assistance
It's in the Operating manual for mobile phone
Solved the mystery but not sure it's going to add anything to my Cali experience

Is it just me or is it a bloke thing?
Every time I get the manuals out to read about our new Cali, I end up asleep!

Just don't forget the dog towels, seat covers, dog brushes and dog perfume....dogs take great delight in mud and rolling in the smelliest of whatever they can find....just when you're about to get back in your van!

An old do a great (small) perfume....baby powder...potent but hides all other smells!

Great lookin Cali - the bug has been caught!

Hi Ladyofthelakes,
I have just read this post, your number plate and van look very similar to mine, did you buy it from Mark Charles?
I drove back from Dungannon last week, and have slept in the van every night since , with the manual as reading. I share your excitement
I am amazed by the technology, and how eaisy the van is to drive, with everything coming on automatically.
Have you found any little secrets?
Like if you hold the unlock button down, It puts the windows down.
Or if you unlock, but don't open a door, it relocks

It's a bloke thing

I don't get the manuals out.

If I get terribly stuck I ring VW assistance, cry, and give the man that turns up a "My hero" look when he fixes something.

Ha ha, your womanly charms GrannyJen,
I think if I showed the assistance man my leg,he would thump me.

I have just worked out how to make the seats slide really far forward, or back to the tailgate......I don't intend to carry loads of stuff, but I just wanted to do it because it was there!

And put the two mattresses into single quilt covers. Fits perfectly.
And when they get dirty, I can turn them over.
