It has come to our attention that some people that have had their roof corrosion repaired within the past two years have started to see the problem reoccur.

We have no idea how large this problem is at the moment so we need your feedback please.

Please could all owners who have had their elevating roof section repainted check to see whether there is any paint bubbling reoccurring under the rubber seal so that we can report back to VW, stating :
  1. whether your seal has been stuck down?
  2. whether there is a tape between the seal and the roof?
  3. which bodyshop did your repair?
  4. Details of corrosion (if any)
Please only use this thread to give your report

Does appear to be a re-occurence of bubbling under the seal but much smaller bubbles more closely packed.

Probably. See the 2 pics. The tape is very well stuck down and it looks like it may be bubbling under but I am loathe to pull it off to look.(pic 1) There is one small bubble, pic.2.
Also, to each side of the small bubble it looks like it is starting again but the bubbles are so small they do not show on the photo.Notes stack (1 of 1).JPG Roof 2 (1 of 1).JPG

Does anyone know if a Nylon roof canvas is used following the roof corrosion work? I believe the T6 has Nylon canvas roof and later T5s as well.

Volkswagan Van Centre (Lancashire)

We had bubbles appearing on both sides of the structural roof panel of our 09 Cally from about May 2011.
VW finally replaced the panel about 12 months later. But in early 2015 bubbles started to appear again in the same location.
The elevating section didn't present any problems untill last month when I noticed small bubbles appearing in a couple of locations.
VW have allocated a Tech Ref Number to put me in the queue for another repair at some point in the future. I'll need to notify them about the bubbles on the elevating section though.

Its all very disappointing ! good luck everyone.

Does not appear to be a re-occurrence of bubbling at this stage for the over-cab panel, work by Heritage summer of 2015 - good communication with them although long wait to get work scheduled in. The whole elevating roof panel was renewed also due to severe hailstorm damage (engine bonnet was repaired and re-sprayed) and so far no sign of bubbling paint. Fingers crossed!
