Forum Bug Reports and Discussion

Thats good thats what your suppose to see when subscribing to the thread :)

Ok, the only issue is, all the subscribed threads from the old forum I will no longer get emails for, no problem just means I'll have to go back and go through this for each one.

The image didnt embed because drop box URL's are not an image, an image URL needs to end with .jpg, .png etc .

Of course, my bad!

Those sections have certain restrictions ill double check with @Martin as to whether they are correct :)

Ok

Keep up the great work!

When you go here : http://vwcaliforniaclub.com/watched/threads/all

Are all those threads listed that you used to get notifications to ? If so its likely you will start to get notifications in the next couple of days, because we've imported to a new system it verifies that you are an active member before sending out subscriptions. At the moment everyone is classed as inactive until they've logged in a couple of times over the coming days.

Yes they are, I believe on the old forum if you started a topic you automatically got subscribed, and by doing so automatically get email notifications.

All very positive - nice job!

I mentioned in another thread, but it is more appropriate here, that avatars seem to be cropped down.
Can this be undone, or how should I resubmit an avatar which will be accepted whole?

Thanks!

Yes there are some downsides to having scalable images around the forum, what it does it keep everything inline and tidy looking.

One thing you could do is ensure that you upload a square avatar rather than rectangular , that way your avatar will only be resized to the correct size square rather than cropped.

You mean 6500 members need to find a way of expanding their rectangular avatars to square format?
I can & will do that for mine, but I really think it would be more efficient if you selected "shrink-to-fit" instead of "crop-to-fit" at your end, wouldn't it? ;)

EDIT: Did mine...

Not really as 6500 members don't have avatars that have a noticeable difference , the very few that do i doubt would mind reuploading their image or a different image to keep everything looking nice. :)

Unfortunately those that would complain about "crop to fit" are also those that would probably complain if we "shrank to fit" as the images would most likely distort because no matter how hard we try, a square is a square and a rectangle image wont fit with out distorting or cropping ;)

As much as id love to be able to please everyone, with any major change we all know that isnt possible, Hopefully you can forgive us for making you resize your avatar this time :)

I haven't used it much yet but I find the light grey writing against a white background is not as easy to read as the old format.
Otherwise pleased with the upgrade.

Also, i suppose recent posts is the same as the old "active topics"?

I don't suppose you would be able to take a screen shot of what you are seeing and upload it ? If its not too much to ask its good to get a perspective from others to make sure you are seeing what you should be seeing and so we can take any feed back on board should we choose to change something over the coming weeks.

Recent posts basically lists all recent posts whether they have been read or unread, while the unread posts next to it displays only unread , once you've read them that thread wont show on that particular list anymore.

Yes, it will fit if it fills the square in one direction but is smaller than the square in the other direction - see mine!

I don't feel I am complaining, I was trying to confirm the real situation (after noticing something wrong) & trying to help members & forum admins come to the best solutions for all.

The real situation is that everybody who had a non-square avatar (and when I did mine I never saw anything about square) now finds their avatar cropped, so bits are missing.
That may or may not be OK.

I suspect that most people in that situation would prefer shrinking to cropping, but I could be wrong & I absolutely agree you can't please all the people all the time! :)

I easily changed my avatar from rectangular to square (adding spare blank space, not chopping off "good" image) using Gimp in Ubuntu, but I suspect most members don't have that.

I was very interested to find the "picresize" site on the "Adding picture to profile" page pointed out by Bramco, but I THINK it can only be used to crop an image down to square then resize the whole thing (correct me...).

Incidentally, that page says keep avatars less than 150x150 pixels, where the new site says at least 200 pixels.

So:
I am NOT complaining!
I don't expect everything to work perfectly at first.
I am very pleased with the new site.
I think there is need to clarify the new parameters for avatars.
If anybody with a rectangular image, who would like to display all of it, needs help, then I don't yet see how they would do that, without Gimp.
But I did mine OK, so I am happy. :)

.

it looks a lot better on the desktop. I was viewing on an ipad air.

I only noticed a nice feature tonight ! If you 'hover' over the title to a thread then a summary (first few lines pop up). I think this is new over the old forum (??) and is nice 'cos it saves clicking to read posts that turn out not to be of interest to me.

Am I odd in not noticing this straight away? If not, perhaps a 'heads-up' could be posted to alert some more of us.

Another nice feature would be a go to top of page link or a new posts link at the bottom of the page (especially long ones). Maybe next to the go to first unread link?

Otherwise nice improvement over the previous forum!

If you look at the bottom and top of the page in the right corner
There is a little arrow click this and a quick navigation box comes up

Thanks Kev! But not quite what I'm after. A direct link or two below the last post of the thread would speed up working through the new posts. :)

Shouldnt be an issue, will get something sorted later tonight/tomorrow :)

You should now see a little blue button bottom right of the screen after you have scrolled around half way down the page , is that what you were looking for :)

Would it be possible to have a members map somewhere on the forum, so we could see where the greatest California population densities are? It would be great if it could just be linked to our profiles and didn't necessarily say who was where, just dots or numbers to show the spread across the UK - and another world map to show our members elsewhere in the world too.

Unfortunately at this moment in time that feature isnt an option because it would require a Geo Targeted addition to the server, but could very well make an appearance should the forum upgrade the server in the near future.

Some in line pictures overlap onto the text from the next post. See the recent one on Britstops.

I say they overlap. I should say they overlapon my Samsung tablet with Chrome. Not sure if this is also the case for other environments.

And now I've gone back to edit it and add some blank lines it's displaying perfectly!!!!
