how about members recommending some useful organizations on here, anything that would enhance the California experiance

Last year I joined the national trust and will be continuing membership this year
Apart from access to their stately homes and beautiful gardens, etc.members are privilege with all day parking which I found to be free to members visiting their sites, a saving alone of upto £10.00 per day

+1 fot National Trust. But we joined NT Scotland, same benefits as NT but you can pay monthly so do not get a big hit once a year

Also English Heritage, if you like castles etc after year one you get free entry to Welsh and Scottish sites ( in year 1 you get them 1/2 price.)

As above for English heritage and NT

RSPB ... lovely cafes, free parking at reserves, nice birds to sit and stare at all day - although no doubt some of our gentlemen members will get into trouble for staring,

Incidentally NT Scotland is cheaper than general NT whilst giving access to all the same places including on the continent!

For some weird reason I am separately a member of both, England and Scotland.

The reason, now mostly lost to myth and legend in the mists of time, had something to do with me organising hysterical events for them,

They wanted historical events but, well, I tried my best :(

Lifetime membership is worth it if you get it early enough....GRANNYJen!

It must be, son...

I've had it for years ...

Membership I mean ...

Oh, and for me, honorary

NT is definitely worth it, they always have good picnic areas. Plas Newydd in Anglesey is our favourite, not for the house itself but for the setting on the Menai Strait.

Only trouble is a lot of NT properties are closed over the winter.

:(:DOn a separate note your Scotland trip has convinced me we ought to get back up there, maybe for the Glenmore meet but at 8.5 months pregnant my wife isn't so sure!o_O

Dad made me buy lifetime NT membership when I was 13 from a small inheritance.. guess it has paid for itself now!!
You're a VIP on here which is one of the best!

I have ordered our first Britstops book and hope membership will prove useful

Although NT property's closed in winter many open over Christmas and parking savings all year
