Cali Dogs

We have a choice of five Cali dogs ranging from very small to very large, and from relaxed to barking mad (we are a soft-touch and in moments of weakness agree to take in the rejects and 'poundies' of the dog world!). We haven't yet taken any of them out in the Cali other than for very short journeys, and would appreciate any tips on travelling with Cali dogs. Eg how to keep them out of the way of the driver, how to stop them slobbering on the satnav etc etc.

You must be even more mad than me! We have a large crate in the boot for two girls to share, a smaller crate behind the passenger seat (wedged between the back of the passenger seat and the bench seat when travelling) and one in a Bergan harness attached to the seatbelt on the rear bench. There are a couple of photos here (taken today) of the crate in the rear with the rear shelf bungee-strapped up against the bench seat:http: //vwcaliforniaclub.com/threads/sea-salt-toffee-on-the-coast.9170/ (scroll right down). The big crate in the rear can also be placed on top of the rear bed shelf, leaving space for coats, boots, dog paraphernalia etc. underneath. We are going to try it that way next weekend. It's a case of trial and error I suppose, as long as the dogs and human occupants are safe and restrained in some way.

Maud :)

Blimey 4 Collies!

I have two Boxers. One who is 13yrs and he is touch and go at the moment. We've been managing his lymphoma since June last year along with his DM. His name is Buddy but we call him Bugs so we are naming the Cali, Bug. Very roller coaster at the moment. Picture of him back in August last year.

The other Boxer is 4.5yrs and is mad

Lovely photos of your boys! I'm sorry to hear that Buddy is unwell and has reached the twilight time of his life, but what a lovely tribute to name the Cali after him, so that you can remember all the adventures you had together as you continue your journey onwards with your youngster. I don't think there is an appropriate smiley for a dog hug...

Photos are on my Cali to-do list. Quite how I round them up for the 'shoot' will be a challenge to my dog management skills - it'll be like herding cats! If all else fails, I'm learning Photoshop.

Our two Girls on their first Test in the Cali. They travelled in our Blue-T4 as well as in our Silver 111kw T4 various times to the UK for vacation and the Bus Fest. Various European Countries all the way up to Norway they have seen. The Journey will continue on the Cali now.
Amy, the Malinois will turn 10 in August and Sky, the German Shepherd woll turn 8 in March

I like what you have done in the back with the parcel shelf:thumb

Nice , one with Belgian roots... "Mechelse scheper" , they are many used as policedogs , no?

Blue-T4, is that a Hatchbag boot liner, or similar, you have there? Looks great for the dogs; my parents have one in their Landrover. Amy and Sky are very pretty girls and look happy to be in their new camper!

@hotel californis T5
Yes, not only the Police uses Malinois. They are used as War Dogs, Protection Dogs, Drugs or whatever Detection and so on. In all types of Dogsports they are used but often forgotten they are great Family Dogs as well. You need to keep them busy ;-(

@Maud
Its a boot liner for the T5 Multivan made by a German Company called Kleinmetall. They do it in different depth. In the corners are Zippers so its easy to put the bench down.
Its not final yet, in order to reduce the width from the 120centimeters Multivan to the 100centmeters California I just folded it. In the endstate I will cut it and clue it together.
The Seperation Board slides in and when parked for Overnight it can be removed easily so we can use the lower Bed.

Yes, they love travelling and are great to be around. No problem To walk them over the crowded Busfest or through Cities. But more they love the Beach ;-).

Run free Buddy, run free....

Run free Buddy, run free....

Buddy will be waiting for you over the bridge, young again and free of pain.

I'm truly sorry for your loss of a much loved friend.

The boys are looking forward to going away in a Cali again when we pick our new one up in April

Hi Bibs, can i ask where you got your coloured mats from?

Nice Bibs ! They are ready to go ...
Well prepaered , seat covers+ fleece blancket , mats...
Is that a selfmade mat ?

I'm not sure whether I should mention where I got the mats from as they were purchased from the other side..... The VWCalifornia club on facebook. The quality was ok but not as good as the mats I originally purchased from California-camping.de . The reason I purchased them was that the Anthracite and classic grey mats drove the Mrs crazy showing dirt. I must say though that the multicoloured mats hide the dirt better than classic grey, anthracite or black mats. Here's the link http://www.thevwcalifornia.com/products-page/

Maud tested Ariadne's suitability as a trials-bus today and she gave it the paws up for comfort and a room with a view of the other competitors when relaxing between classes. The Cali is the perfect dog transport for all occasions and, just in case the girls ever wonder who the Cali really belongs to, they each have a little reminder on the tailgate now too :happy

"When would you know we are there, Max?"

"Bella, it's when Auntie Jen puts the gear selector into "S" for "Stopping"
