Just noticed another Cali (Grey) down the hill from us at Cherry Hinton today.

Anyone from here?

If so... Hi there :)

It's obviously not me, but are you camping at the Cherry Hinton CC Site today?.... If so, I've often wondered if it is worth a trip?

I have been at Cherry Hinton several times including this year for the folk festival. Typical caravan club standard site, with easy access into Cambridge by bus.

Very handy for Cambridge and good walking in the area.

Clean well organised site... overly so in some respects.

Some of the pitches, despite being hard standing are very muddy due to the fact they are not actually on the road but off it, over the grass to get to them.

Wouldn't be a first choice site, but still useful for it's proximity to the city.

Hi Mark,

I was camping at Cherry Hinton this weekend but my Cali is sand beige. Spent two nice days wandering around Cambridge and enjoyed a few nice whiskeys.

I didn't see a grey cali.

Regards
Mike

Mark,

I forgot to add...the site in Cherry Hinton is Ok, nothing great. Handy for getting into Cambridge though.

Slight problem... I was forgetting that the CC don't allow Beach's :(

Good point.... but...

Cherry Hinton is possibly one of the few CC sites you might manage.

It's also open to non-members and also tents. So nothing to stop you getting a tent pitch with a £10 Tesco popup tent.

So why do CCs not allow Beaches?

The CC have rules surrounding camper conversions and fixed habitation equipment, ie a kitchen.

It is something to watch out for as not every site,CC or otherwise, welcomes campers without a fixed kitchen.... I remember original Beach member James being turned away from a campsite in his Beach.

Me too, James; I used to live in Cambridge and try to get back at least once a year to visit college. I wondered about making a weekend of it this year and would like to be as close as possible to avoid parking. Sounds like this would do well for a night or two - something to add to my 2015 plans :thumb

easy access into Cambridge by bus.
Is it possible to walk or is the bus the only logical option due to distance or traffic?

It's about 3.5 miles from the centre... possible to walk, but it's a long and not particularly pretty one.

Easy to cycle however.

The bus stops just down the road and takes about 25 mins.

I like that :) get a tent site and don't pop the roof for the night, that idea might come in handy one day.
