Hi, I'm looking for a bit of help. I am looking for somewhere local that can supply and fit a set of black side bars to my camper. I live in Essex so anywhere there or within easy reach of the M25 would be ideal.... Thanks.

Beware. Many 3rd party sidebars, due to the way they fit, do not allow you to use the jacking points. These would do and Genuine sidebars are easy to fit.

Great advise... thank you. When you say easy to fit... is that for anyone... I don't have any skills when it comes to this kind of thing.... I'm worried about buying them and not being able to fit them.

Thanks for spending the time to answer.

Could even help you fit them if your not too far what part of Essex in you in as I'm pretty close to Waltham Abbey / Harlow

Good find.:thumb

Probably either because the seller didn't add every single one the hundreds of T5 variants or ebay's information is wrong. Can't think of a single reason why they wouldn't fit.

Look good, but I put my model in and it said:-

This item does not fit VW Transporter 2014 MK V [2003-2015] 2.0 BiTDI 4motion.

Wonder why not?
I did the same and said doesn't fit a 2014 MK V 2.0tdi 2wd at £99 I would buy.

In the description the seller has said that the eBay model lookup is not complete.

Polished ones are on their actual site but out of stock maybe give the ma call

What has always put me off with the chrome bars is the end brackets on the OE ones always seem to rust?? Deffo fit front mudflaps if you get them, I did one both

Quote from direct4x4 site:
Original equipment, or genuine style stainless steel side bars for the VW T5 Transporter SWB.

These side bars are full, hand polished stainless steel and have the curves at the end. They fit flush to the side of the T5's/ Transporter's sills and are the quickest and most cost effective 'Sportline' upgrade option.

The T5/ Transporter OE side bars are identical to the genuine part by VW (ZGB7H0071687 part number from VW) and are manufactured by a genuine OE supplier (so have a top level specification). Even the brackets and bolts used are identical to the genuine VW bars. The stainless steel used is SUS 304 grade, they are built to last.

The side bars will fit all years of the VW T5 and Transporter. They will even fit all the years of the bus and Caravelle models. They will only fit the short wheel base models and have a 'hand polished, bright silver, mirror' finish.

Diameter: 64mm - 2.5inches

I swear I don't work for them just very happy and sharing the wealth:bananadance

Yeah, Yeah!.

Only joking.

Over on the t4/t5 forum there are loads of complaints about the powder coating on the black bars, some have done a carbon wrap on a stainless bar.

Powder coat on mine where/are very smooth no complaint from me there, I think you definitely need to run the front mudflaps to protect them

I got the stainless steel bars from these guys, ring them direct (google ebay name) very helpful and will be able to supply bars for any T5 i imagine. They can also point you to a Youtube video they made showing how to fit although it's quite easy, i did it without a ramp or jacks.

Lee did you ever find any black side bars and if you did are you satisfied with them?

Can anyone confirm if the side bars from 4x4direct fit on in the same way as the original VW ones/ Looking on their website, it looks like the bars have a bracket running across parallel with the axle? Does this make them likely to catch underneath? Quite like the idea of these to protect the sills, but don't want to just add to things that might go wrong.....

They might have different fitments for different bars / suppliers.

Mine went from them on the factory mount holes under sill, exactly same as VW originals as far as I can tell.

the only thing to catch would / could be the bars themselves which reduce ground clearance at side of van by around 3inches at an estimate.
