Wet footwells

This wasn't on a T5, but I had a similar problem which turned out to be the scuttle drain hole blocked with leaves. In a down pour, scuttle filled up and overflowed into the heater fresh air intake, draining through the heater to under the carpet in the footwell.

Clearing the scuttle drain of leaves and general muck solved the leak.

Thanks Alan...I have blasted the scuttle drains through with a hose and they are clear.

Interestingly, I spoke to the original (and only) previous owner yesterday (a very good friend) who had one instance of the very same problem some years back but never discovered the cause.
 
Thanks welshwesti for that link, that all looks like my problem.

I think I'm going to see about having the windscreen removed and having that whole area checked, particularly those weather strips/seals forward of the pop top. The whole area all looks OK, but I think it would now benefit from closer examination.

Also... there are a couple of seams on the A pillars, near the top, which should have seam sealant in them. This tends to crack / dry out / fall out. Mine was missing on one side and that caused a leak down the inside of the pillar, which ended up finding its way out around the wheel arch area where the carpet covers it.

Thanks Seb...I will have a good look around that area.

As I said earlier in the thread, I have pumped litres of rain water at pressure all over the front, with roof up and down, but cannot make it leak!

Nice and sunny at the moment, but it looks like there might be the (inevitable) thunderstorms later in the week, so that might do it.
 
Well, I've just about given up with this problem! We've been in a rain soaked field in Cornwall with the roof up, with the roof down and with rain beating against the roof/windscreen crossing Bodmin Moor...and the mats are dry as a dry thing, which of course is a GOOD thing.

I intend to have the roof removed next spring for a respray, new trim and new canvas so I will have everything checked, following the numerous suggestions in this thread, for which I thank you all.

Just a quick update on this issue, as it might help others in future. The wet footwells problem is fixed!

Had to take the bus to my VW man yesterday because the electric window switches in the driver's door had stopped working. Simply a case of replacing the wiring which had worn through due to the door being opened and closed a million times in the last thirteen years.

Being the excellent engineer he is, he likes to have a look around any job he's doing, just to check everything else is OK in that area. He discovered that when a local 'alarm specialist' fitted my SIGMA system back in the spring, they omitted to refit the rubber grommets in the A pillar...both sides!

All sorted now. I should have known better; my father always said "if you have done a job, or had a job done, and something isn't right afterwards, check the job you have just done first".

What can you do...somethings you just never learn!
