Hi all,

I've just found this forum from a link on the T4-Forum so I thought I'd give it a bash. I'm from North Yorkshire now but I live in Norway. We toured round Norway last year in my Syncro and I wanted to import it into Norway but the crazy rules they have would have meant be forking out the best part of 6 grand in tax (Sod that!). Handily a T4 California Exclusive came up for sale just up the road from where we live so we've snapped it up and boy am I a happy chappy! I'd never seen these before I came to Norway when I followed one near Odda and I loved them and their oddness. This one has only just cracked 100miles so its just a baby still. I cant wait to get out in it before the snow comes. I've been reading up on this forum and the T4 forum on their faults and good points but any assistance always comes in handy.

Cheers all.
Matt

Welcome from Belgium !
We did a three weeks trip in south and mid Norway just this june , a report on that you can read here on the forum.
Love Norway afther just one visit ....great nature and good maintained roads.
btw ...congrats on your "smurf" purchase!

I saw that on Instagram earlier :) Lovely looking van.

Hi Matt, welcome from a fellow Exclusive owner!

Cheers,
Aye Norway is somewhere where every needs to experience. It never fails to amaze me how beautiful it's. I'm quite lucky really. I'm hoping next year we can explore a little further north. Senja is on the list and I want to see the rest of Lofoten and Vesterålen.

Aye I'm a bit addicted to Instagram at the moment. I hadn't had the van 5 minutes before I posted that. I was all excited.

It's got a few minor dings but the interior is mint and well looked after. The central locking is playing up but that's a common fault. Hope it's not a nightmare fix. I'll be checking out the door bellows and the rest of the loom.

Also, does anyone have the dimensions of the front and rear Westfalia decals for the roof. Mine are missing for some reason and I want some of the authenticity back. I think they should be dark grey for this colour of I'm not mistaken.

Cheers all

Loved Norway when we went, didn't have the van back then so used trains and buses for Oslo up to the Lofoten Islands, then the Hurtigruten down to Bergen, smaller ferries into Flam or Fram (I can't remember which is the boat and which is the town?) and a mental train ride back to Oslo :)

Will be back in the van :)

Try Guenzl for decals, I think there are some other suppliers in the 'Westfalia Useful Information' thread.

Hi, and welcome, nice looking van

Matt, the front decals (on the bed bulge and on the rear roof) are 271mm long x 35mm tall.
I've only a poor signal so can't send a photo, but I'd silver grey rather than dark grey. Obviously it is the unusual Westy font (rounded corners and with a tenancy to lean to the right).
Remind me in a week and I can send photos of the and the 'exclusive' on the bonnet and the 'california exclusive' on the rear 'tailgate'.

Aye we went through Flam on the way up but didnt stop long. We should have gone on that railway when we were there. I went on the main railway from Bergen to Olso the other month trying to get home and you look down on that railway thinking who on earth would try and put a railway up something so steep! Its immense :)

Superstar! Much appreciated lad :thumb I've been onto Brickwerks site first but their delivery was going to charge me £60 but that was just a glitch but ill double check if they are the same size. We've still not even got the van home yet! Hopefully the mother-in-law (of sorts) will be going to pick it up during the week.

Has anyone fitted a rear view camera yet too? I've fitted one to my Synco but thats not got the big box on the back. Has anyone tried it yet?

Ta :thumb

This was a few bits a bobs from when I took my Syncro to Norway for the first and last time last year. Also where I'd seen my first T4 Cally and now I actually have one. We followed it trough an underground roundabout that looked like a UFO. It was some feat of engineering. Those noggys don't half do good roads these days. :)

Matt, mine came with 2 cameras. The default one is in the bumper and has the distance markers (but don't forget the bike rack....). The other one is high up by the high level brake light, and shows you a much better 'lie of the land'. Both show on a screen fixed to the (redundant in our vans) rear view mirror!

True, I didn't think about the rear view mirror until later on. Does it still have one and you've replaced it? The top mounted camera sounds the best. I've fitted one of these to my other van but its no good at all for this one as on only directly below. Have you got any photos of the top mounted one? :thumb

This was the first one we saw. I got her to take a photo whilst we chased and admired it. I couldn't keep up in the poor old 2.4

We drove thru that tunnel also....amazing view to see a roundabout show up in a tunnel ...and the blue light makes it even more special !

I'm away atm but will send some images when home.

Hi Matt nice to hear from you, looks a smart and interesting van :thumb

Cheers. Interesting indeed. Needs a few bits of TLC but only minor bits at the mo. I need to go though it all when I get it back home and make sure all the bits work. Then i'll be back on here pleading for help :) The next step is to get some winter studded tyres as the dealine is soon in October I think when we have to fit them.

That's such a cool picture of the roundabout in the tunnel.
Nice van, for a Smurf top ;):thumb

Ta :thumb Aye that roundabout was unreal! I'm guessing the reason they are called Smurf tops is not down to a german translation :)

Today I took it out for the first mooch. The TDI makes a difference from my slug of a 2.4 back home. We went down with my parents to the arctic circle visitor centre which has shut for the summer. There was a couple of nice german T4's already there though camped out
