Hi

We're planning on spending an extended period in France and Spain in the summer (cannot wait!), and so I am starting to prepare a list of stuff we need.

Does anyone know if there is a replacement bulb set for the Cali or do I need to buy individuals for each unique bulb.

Any help gratefully received,
Cheers

Mark

The VW accessories brochure shows a spare bulb set in a box. Think they are £18, may be worth seeing what halfords have

Thanks both.

Halfords don't have California in their little rolodex's of vehicles for bulbs.

I'll have a look at both the suggestions here.

Brought mine from just kampers.

Sorry, should have mentioned I have Xenons.

Does that need dipped / main beam bulbs?

I don't know what you do with Zenons, as it isn't just a bulb. One of the reasons I didn't spec them on my SE. Sorry can't help on that point.

Is not mandatory in UK to bring a replacement bulbs set in your vehicle?

Not to my knowledge, no.

My son suggests looking for Vw transporter bulb sets. Would that work? It's what campervantastic sell? We are also on the hunt

SMG sell official VW replacement bulb kits, nice little box.

It satisfies the law, I wouldn't have a clue what to do with them myself

My plan which may or may not be misguided and of course depends on actually getting my Cali which has been on order since early Nov.

Is to upgrade the Bulbs, will need advice on which are the correct ones Canbus friendly etc.
In particular I believe an upgrade on the reversing bulb/s to a brighter light is very handy for manoeuvring in tight dark areas.
Then keep the original bulbs as emergency spares.
The wait for the Cali is costing me a fortune in gadgets and accessories, I have now decided to put some money aside for diesel so I can go out in it. ;-)

I have yet to see any Replacement Bulb kit to include the H15 bulb, nor the H4B for the foglight. The VW kits normally have 1 x H4 or 1 x H7 headlight bulb and do not include the H15 or HB4 bulbs.

You need the vehicle safe to drive. That means you need replacement bulbs for Rear side lights / Indicators / Brakes and Front Dipped Beam ( H7 ).
If the DRL light ( H15 ) fails then drive on Dipped Beam until you can get a replacement.
Fog light fails then drive on Dipped Beam until you can get a replacement

What they do not want is some numpty driving on Main Beam because their Dipped Beam has failed, or no indicators or Brake lights.

Even the RAC or AA bulb kits do not come with these specialist bulbs.

Correct, and know how to change them. If you've got big hands then you had better train up your good lady on how to change some of the bulbs.:thumb

Does one still need the H15 and H4B if one has Xenon's?

Thanks for the useful info!

That's no problem I made sure she had small hands before I started going out with her ;-)

The H4B is the fog light. If you have Zenons for the Dipped and Main Beam then you don't need the H15, just spare Zenons I presume.

Needless to say I do not have Zenons.

Thanks WelshGas. I was lead to believe that the Xenons are a sealed unit / high voltage / don't ever touch / last forever type of affair.

Not sure if my info is good though.

I know for a matter of fact that Xenons do not last for ever but how the Continentals deal with them and the requirement to carry spare bulb set I do not know. Maybe VW can tell you or the AA / RAC?

I'll call RAC. Good thought.
