After 5 years our beloved T4 Westfalia California needs a new home as we’re off to Oz to see our sons.
It has been maintained regardless of cost with >£2.5K of garage receipts & virtually all consumable parts replaced by us including all pumps/belts & seals.
The interior is all original & in excellent condition with usual top-quality Westfalia spec. plus a few factory fitted optional extras including: Alloys; ABS; a 12L fixed LPG tank & fitted heavy-duty carpet throughout (much cozier than vinyl!) also upgraded rear gas-struts to handle the fiamma bike-rack.
Fitted with D/G privacy glass in rear passenger compartment, & twin rear head-rests.(rare)
This is the only factory fitted campervan in EU apart from "Devon Campers" whose interiors (with all due respect) look like your Granny's front room!

The pop-top is in great condition with no rips/tears (regularly silicone treated) the twin matress covers have recently been removed & washed so all fresh.
Rock n roll double bed is very comfy & whole unit slides on rails so can be removed totally to provide a large load lugger.

At 30 years old the cabin still looks smart, with just a few wee chips on cabinets but everything still works perfectly, from the fridge/freezer (which runs down to -20 degrees!) to the twin hob which can run for weeks on one tank of gas, ((providing extra storage space & no fiddly bottles to change)), covered by a fold-away, stainless steel draining board, & sink with tank-fed extendable tap( pop it out the window for a shower to rinse away sand from the kids/dog!)
It has twin 12v lights + reading light for top-bunk/ twin 240v sockets & a Hella (12v) fitted with 4-way DIN extension & 2 x USB.
It has twin leisure batteries (4 years old but still hold charge) & mains hook-up connection + 10m lead.
It has a Webasto night-heater but the dash control module went doowally last year so will need replaced if you feel you need it. (we just use a night-storage oil-fired radiator which keeps the cabin cozy)
There is also a Bosch "Bloctronic" ultrasonic alarm system but previous owners lost the key so would need a new lock-barrel fitted. We use a Krook-lock.

When we got it there was the usual cosmetic rust spots on wheel-arches/wings/windscreen scutle & tail-gate, which have all been treated & repaired as req. Rubbed down to bare metal, treated with anti-rust paint & fitted wheel-arch covers so it looks smart.
The underside/ chassis is solid, having been treated with Waxoyl.
If I were to keep it I would consider replacing the wings, touch-up round windscreen, fit a tailgate repair panel & treat it to a lower half respray in smoke grey which would bring it back to near factory condition. (Been quoted £1500 all in).

With a decent offer comes £2.5k of extras including a Fiamma F35 pro awning/ 5m2 Brustor annex, Kamping Khazi (unused!), 2Kw generator(for off-grid), Fiamma rack +3 Bikes (Saracen/Trek/ Carrerra), Thermal windscreen cover/ Fitted Mosquito net/ ground-sheets/ camping chairs/ Quechua wind-break/ picnic-table/ heaters/ DAB module/ Lap-top/ ext. lights & power leads.
All stored in a Military grade 100kg capacity load-bag which sits nicely on the rear-rack.
I also have the original EU headlights which are handy if you plan a road-trip abroad.

The 2.4D AAB engine may not be the most refined in the range but is bulletproof & will cruise all day at 70-80mph & still return 30+mpg
It has had regular services & most parts have been replaced in our ownership including brake servo/calipers/discs/pads/shoes, Eurowinter tyres/PAS pump/ Cam & crank seals/ Timing belt/ Glow-plugs/ Exhaust etc. New MOT & has always passed with only minor advisories.
It's had a gear-box service & a new 5th gear syncro fitted with extended range so pulls well in all gears.
Our son did Lejog & we went as support team, I did 13h return leg in one go & van never missed a beat ( which is more than can be said for the driver!)
The van is due us £15k but I want it to go to a good home so open to sensible offers ( must have 5 figures!)

A few folk have asked about its history. It started life in late 1991 when it left the Westfalia factory, was owned by a German family for 15 years then sold to a Dutch couple who had it for 5 years but unfortunately the timing belt snapped so it had a replacement (identical) engine with 120k fitted at a cost of >£1k ( receipt available). It was imported to the UK in 2012 & was owned by a family on the south coast for 5 years then we bought it.

As I said at the start, we have loved this van, when I retired we were looking for a camper & I was given sage advice from an experienced mechanic to go for a Westfalia due to build quality, there are plenty cheaper T4 conversions but none as good as a Westy!
But now time to hand the batton onto another who, I hope, will enjoy & take care of her as much as we have.
