2.0 BiTDI 220bhp CarPlay SportLine New Engine DSG FSH
Over 3yrs ownership, we have replaced just about anything that can go wrong, including the engine which suffered from the notorious "CFCA Engine Problem", which can happen on all VW vans with 180bhp or more. This happened soon after buying the van and cost us £7500. All 180 bhp (or higher) vans can suffer from this issue where the engine destroys itself and the turbos, DPF, etc, but the only way you can tell is that it starts using a lot of oil, so it's very hard to spot when buying, unless you do a compression test. This work included two turbos, a blanked EGR cooler, DPF, etc. and was done by renowned Retro Resus of Bridgewater who are the main UK provider of this permanent fix, which passes all MOT emissions tests and cannot reoccur (unlike vans where a new EGR has been fitted). If you research them you will see they have a flawless reviews and the engine bay looks even more pristine than when I gave it to them. It’s done under 12k miles since the new engine was fitted (at 65,077 miles).
As part of this process they have to remap the van to account for the blanked EGR, which I wasn’t keen on but actually is superb so the van now has 220bhp, which combined with the lower springs (the standard ones are borderline dangerous) means it drives more like a car than a van, easily returning over 30mpg. When informing my insurer of the modifications, my premium increased by less than £50 per year, in fact their admin fee to change the insurance cost me more than the additional premium.
If you are buying a Cali and aren't aware of the above, please stop and Google "CFCA Engine Problem" and do your research (including many threads on this forum) before going any further, then come back and buy this one!
As well as maintaining the Full Service History, we have also replaced the leisure batteries, starter battery, suspension (SportLine upgrade), water pump, cam belt, fresh water pump, tap switch, head unit with Apple CarPlay and rev cam, four new crossclimate tyres, spare tyre, wind out awning, and done a major service including DSG service, plus probably a whole load of other things I've forgotten to mention.
I had toyed with adding fancy alloys, side bars and a pre-painted bolt on sport line bumper from Vee Dub Transporters but I prefer the softer ride of the smaller rims (big wheels make for a rattly ride), which would have cost a grand or two and I’ve spent the money on maintaining it instead.
So mechanically sound, spotlessly clean, in excellent working order, and in superb condition inside and out. This van will offer the buyer what is probably the most reliable of any BiTDI Cali with 180bhp+ currently for sale for these reasons. Great spec including the most powerful engine (hardly run in), the essential 7spd DSG (recently serviced), electric power roof, digital triple zone climate control with driver override, heated seats, powered Soft Close side and rear doors, Apple Car Play, daytime running lights, 240v socket, inverter, 240v hookup with automatic charger for leisure and starter batteries, 12v fridge, gas cooker, running water, etc.
Sale also Includes fly screen, 'SilverScreens' insulated windscreen and side window covers, bunk safety net, custom bed topper, custom fit removable interior carpets. custom bought plastic boxes for all your stuff inside the cupboards and under the bed, electric hook up cable, food grade filler hose, tank cleaner and water purifier, elastic 'roof saver', etc. and a few genuine VW accessories such as the towel holder and rubber dashboard mats.
Van is plugged in and charged monthly, and tanks flushed and sterilised for drinking water.
Also comes with three keys, remote for the diesel interior heater (lovely on winter mornings), a Full Service History and a pile of receipts.
We are selling as with two growing kids it’s just too small for us now so we are looking for something more spacious.
Any inspection is welcome including a test drive and compression test! Ready to fill up with fuel, food and all your stuff to hit the road with peace of mind.
Any questions welcome.
