I use another car for my business as a Chartered Surveyor, but would like the option to use the Cali as a backup when needed occasionally.
Does anyone know a company offering business cover?

Difixult to get apparently. Do a search & should find info on old thread.

We got Business Cover via SafeGuard who are a division of Swinton. They were reasonable competitive as well.

Hi, Comfort Insurance appear to offer Business cover for main driver but only social, domestic and pleasure for other with no option to upgrade. VW Insurance offer Business use for both drivers if needed. Don't be put off by online quote which seems to insist on a tracker, better to phone and speak to them.

I hav it on mine without any issue. Have just renewed again this week and not had a problem.

Class 1 with Direct Line.

Thanks for all the responses folks.
Stu - who did you renew with?

I have my Cali registered for business use.

Comfort, over 15,000 mile pa, £325

I will have to tell Comfort when the pace maker is fitted tomorrow No doubt it will be more painful than the knife, bound to up it, and more so re: age-- after all I was born when King George 5 was on the throne
A week last Sunday I had a Tel. call from Lancaster ins. asking me to renew my Jimny ins. Told them the quote for renewal I had received in the post a few days before had been 75% more then last year.
Talked them down to the previous years price, told the caller I would ring back on Monday. Got the reply, you will have to pay the full price if you do that.
Tel. display showed up " caller withheld" A sad old sod like me could easily have passed my card details over. However phoned on the Monday and got last years price.
A lot of con merchants about !!!

Hope you never need to claim, they are a nightmare. Or were a few years ago when I was involved in a third party fault accident.

I had a bad claims experience with admiral in the late 90s. But I don't claim often and assume the worst about all insurers. The number of legal precedents made by insurance companies trying to void claims is quite telling.

OK at least you know about them. Yes I try to not have to claim at all.
Insurance is a rip off.

I wouldn't use Admiral again however cheap they are. Four years before I took out their insurance someone had bumped into the back of me at traffic lights (low speed), and I assumed this wasn't relevant as there was no claim on my insurance. They were quite aggressive saying I had withheld information, giving the impression that if I’d had to claim the insurance would have been void. Basically it was an excuse to raise the agreed premium after the event because their underwriters say that someone who has been involved in a no-fault accident, however small, is a higher risk. Or do all insurance companies operate like that?

I have just moved away from Admiral (comfort for the van and aviva for the car) - I left for cost reasons, but was with them for years. I had one claim and it was dealt with very quickly and fairly.

The main annoyance with admiral was that when you renewed the price rose dramatically, but on the comparison sites they were cheapest, so you had to cancel and renew. This year aviva were cheaper so off I went :)

Many thanks to all who posted here - it's been a very useful exercise.
We renewed with Safeguard today at a reasonable cost (cheaper than Caravan Guard without business use).
The only slight snag, which others may wish to note, is that the policy holder does not get Third Party only cover to drive someone else's vehicle as is normal for fully comp.

To resurrect this thread, Safeguard have refused to give me a quote including business use because I have access to another vehicle (my wife's car). I'm still trying to work out how this is relevant to my risk in using the California for travel to occasional meetings!

LV here, insured for business use and I have access to another car too.

Seems odd to state access to another car, do they assume your wife doesnt use it? Weird.

Just in the process of renewing mine on an Admiral Multicar policy - 6000miles p.a and SD&P cover only for £213.30 with protected no claims :thumb

We have an Admiral multi-car policy but they were a nightmare to even get a quote from. They had issues with the value of the vehicle being over £50k, then could not understand why I would want business use on a camper insisting that I must be going to use it as a mobile office! i decided it wouldn't be worth it if I tried to claim off them so have looked elsewhere.

My Beach is due to arrive at the end of this year. In May 2017 we are heading off on a 12 month tour of Europe.

I cannot find insurance which will give us business cover and over 60 days comprehensive cover in Europe.

I suppose it should be possible to get business cover for 5 months, then cancel and take out 365 day European cover with a different provider.

The alternative seems to be to run two cars for 5 months.
