T6 Ocean 150
Hi,
Have a 150 T6 Ocean expected delivery this month, having problems with insurance, NFU that cover my outgoing T5 140 Kombi want £300 more than the Kombi, rang VW's own insurer that is linked from the official website, went through all the details and was then told "Vw underwriters could not offer a Quote due to the vehicle value" I find this odd, vehicle is standard bar couple of options, no where near top possible cost. Any advice?

Hi. I'm not being awkward but if you use the Search function, top R, with the term " Insurance" there are a lot of threads with recommendations. I use Caravan Club who give 2 years New for Old on a new vehicle. Not the cheapest but I have very good experience with them following a claim of a brand new caravan being written off.

Hi. Welcome to the forum.
We took delivery of our Ocean 150 on Saturday. Still can't stop smiling.:):):):)
There is a lot on insuring a Cali in the insurance thread. Also if you join as a VIP member, think you get discount from Safeguard & ? Comfort. Use the link below

I did a comparison of 4 different companies on page 7 of the thread

All four offered new for old on a new vehicle but with different conditions.

Can't really help with the insurance but don't take the VW gap insurance if it's offered.
We got a five year gap policy for about half the cost VW wanted for three years.

I went with Comfort in the end - 5% discount for being a VIP club member. Just make sure you understand the 36 hour rule if you go with Comfort - there's lots of discussion about it on various threads here.

Finally picking up SusiBus T6 tomorrow. We've gone with Comfort at £307:23 with VIP 5 % discount. We dealt with Tracy at Comfort and found her excellent to deal with. We had dealt with her a little while ago when insuring our son's T4 California. We did this at the last minute, just before closing time on a Saturday morning and she was really helpful.

I asked why some people were getting cheaper quotes for T5’s, she said that that was because they wouldn't be getting a new for old built into the policy because of the vehicles age, and the actual value of the vehicle would be less. That makes sense !

I understand that the policies are also not subject to you having proof of a no claims discount already, but they have recently introduced that they will give you proof of having earned a no claims bonus with them. This was particularly helpful to us because I'd let my no claims bonus lapse because as I was running a second car on a classic car insurance which also didn't provide me with a no claims discount proof.

Thanks for that and good luck tomorrow.

I just got insurance from Comfort. I am very happy with the quote and package they gave me.

What is 'gap' insurance? I've heard this mentioned before.

Very strange but I had exactly the same response from them. I then asked about the free VW 5 day drive away cover for the same vehicle and was told yes, that will be covered no problem! So, having had quotes from CC and C&CC I will most likely go with Comfort as they include class 1 business at no extra cost and appear to have the best cover for my requirements at a reasonable cost.

It is basically " New for Old ", but only on a new, 1st registration vehicle for a set period 1,2,3 or more years.
In a total right off accident it will pay the difference between the Insurance pay out and cost of a New vehicle.

The gap policies I've seen don't pay for a new vehicle, they pay the difference between the insurance pay out and the invoice price, ie the price you paid.

My CC insurance includes a replacement vehicle to same standard for first 2 years. Checked with them and it would now be a T6 to same standard unless there happened to be a new T5 with same extras available. I had experience of this with an end of line new caravan replaced with equivilent new model year, insured with CC.

Excellent quote from Comfort of £306.
Cost was not the main issue but CC wanted £597 and C&CC £671.
When I asked why it was so high it was mainly because I would have no other vehicles. Just goes to show there are different companies catering for different groups.
Obviously I fit into the comfort category.

So do Comfort include New for Old for 2 years and have they abandoned the 48 hour rule?

Nope still got the 48 hour but can't really see it being be a major issue. Informed this can be extended with a phone call. New for old is 3 years or 15,000 miles.

I asked for clarification on the 48 hour rule and below is the reply.

"Further to your email regarding the 48 hour rule, you must tell us immediately if you are intending to store your motorhome for a period in excess of 48 hours at an address other than the storage location disclosed to us in your statement of fact or an approved storage location. This will not apply if you are using your motorhome at the time.

If you intend to leave the motorhome unattended for longer than 48 hours, you would need to call the office on 0208 984 0777 as each case is looked at individually."

I'm quite happy with that as I can see how it could be abused. Probably the reason they have the rule.

Pleased to have it sorted as getting quotes does my head in.

Hi, just thought I'd share my experience regarding insurance as a lot of companies wanted me to fit a GPS tracker as the vehicle was over 50k, the cost for this would be £500 supplied and fitted by VW. I ended up going with Caravan and motorhome club who do not require a tracker unless the vehicle is over 75k. Price was £496 inclusive of legal protection, another named driver, Europe cover, commuting to a single place of work.
Collecting the car on Monday- very excited. Ocean 204 4 motion

And you get 2 years New for Old, if it is the first registration.

I must revisit this thread as my insurance is up for renewal next month... sigh.............

I'm with Direct Line. Switched from a 2011 Caravelle T5.1 180 worth £17k to my new Cali Ocean 204 worth £55k and I got a return premium! They couldn't find the Ocean on their system although they had both SE and Beach models so they put it in as a 2017 VW Caravanette with a side note that it is an Ocean 204. They were ok with the value as long as it was less than £75k.
