It doesn't matter what you orderd
If they can't supply the parts why put them on the options list ?
VW are joke company nowadays a shadow of their former selves.
You would get better service from a back street converter! It couldn't be any worse.

Indeed good point. I wasn't defending VW by the way, I just wondered if a particular part was not a particularly commonly chosen option and therefore caused some problems. That said VW have accepted my order, which in a way supports your comment. Also I did wonder when VW had some disputes with suppliers this summer if any of those affected the Cali......I guess we will never know. We just have to wait.:(

For whats its worth I rented a UK converted T6 from a reputable converter in September and was horrified by the clean water seytem. No level indicator, small pump stuffed into the top of a very small (less than 10 Ltrs) poly tank. We were told to remove the pump from the tank during driving and place in poly bag and to keep the polybag in place with a rubber band! Oh, and the cap for the tank was black!! (isn't that the colour for waste water??). I guess this one reason we are all prepared to wait.:)

It also has a lot to do with dealer allocation, if they have sold all their slots you have to wait longer, I was shown my dealers California allocations this week and they are full until the last week in March.

If that is the case then why o why don't they tell you this at the outset so that you, the paying customer, know where you stand.
Instead all you get is rumours and BS and lies.

More lies from a company that has been caught lying at a very high level.

I don't think that I have had any lies from VW about my order, just farcical delays.

I went to see the dealer two weeks ago to try to find out what was going on. I was given the following information:
1 - VW have increased allocation to the UK for the year by 300 units
2 - my April order without a build date is not their longest delay: March is (SMG Tonbridge if you want to know if you are that unlucky customer)
3 - the dealers are as frustrated as their customers

Hmmm..............a classic under supplied Market. Allocation is a clear indication that VW can't cope with the volume demand. (Shades of how, in East Germany, when you wanted to place an order for a Trebant, assuming you were rich enough, you had to wait a very long time without any idea how long that would be!!) As a result all dealers have an allocation. So if those dealers oversell their allocation VW are unable/unwilling to offer any build dates for those units. The fact that VW are allocating 300 more units to the UK is clearly good news but it remains to be seen how much that helps.
 
What is the current wait time for delivery please? Is it still six months?

It depends what you order, the farcical thing is nobody knows or is willing to tell the paying customer what it depends on.

Mid march order, still no confirmed build date and of course even a confirmed build date can still be moved, backwards or forwards.

snowy55, I feel for you but I am not so sure about this as you seem to be. Allocation is about generalities not detail. I recognise I can not have any real influence on VW deliveries, information etc. So I will worry about other things - the things I can change. Life is too short and blood pressure is a killer! I will remain chilled no matter.:)
 
This is not just a California problem, it applies to other T6s. I have just inquired about a new LWB 150ps Highline Kombi to be given a probable delivery date of May 2017! No fancy extras except LEDs & App connect etc.

I was told last week that delivery of the Caddy is delayed because of DSG and LED lights.

Not heard this about LED's but DSG has been cited before.

I am expecting a conversation with my dealer, Volkswagen Van Centre (Birmingham), tomorrow. If I get any pearls I will share.

Can you ask about the 300 allocation increase?

It would be nice to have this figure confirmed by a second source.

There are 41 van centres across the UK which stock campervans, so 300 extra is only 7 or 8 campervans on average per dealer. Larger dealers in campervans, according to my dealer, with receive a higher quota.
 
Recently received the following text from dealer;

'I hope all well the provisional build is week 47 which is the week of 21/12/16.
What will happen now it will go to an actual build date then I will be able to confirm a date.'

Hoping build week is confirmed even it does mean delivery in the middle of winter!

Week 47, starts 21st November (maybe you just made a typo above?) I've a provisional date of week 48.

Your "provisional" date should go "confirmed" about 4 weeks beforehand, so that's next week for you!

You can phone VW Customer Services directly, then press option 4 - Quote your order number, for an update.

Hi Tom, are you saying you placed an order this April and you still have no build date? What have you been advised by the dealer? I have ordered from SMG in Tonbridge end of Sept. Hoping for the van to arrive 1st March. Have they indicated whether they (SMG) have had their allocation? Have you specified an unusual build? I have ordered LEDs and DSG!

SMG Tonbridge filled their allocations some time ago, and I do not know how much of the extra allocations they have used. New orders go into the general queue which seems to have no identifiable pattern for build dates.

I guess my order is fairly unusual for a number of reasons, and also very low priority.

I have no need for the van until the end of May 2017, as that is when my wife and I are taking our two pre-school boys away for a year's tour of Europe. For that reason we ordered our van to be used as a demonstrator for up to 3 months prior to delivery in return for a 14% discount.

We were expecting build around now, with delivery "before Christmas" suggested by the dealer. However, having read this group, and being aware of the production delays, and changes in VED, I do have a contractual long-stop date of delivery by March 2017 written into the agreement.

Initially we were given a provisional build date of week 41, this later slipped to week 44, and then to week 2. The van then lost its provisional build date completely due to the new allocations, and has emerged with a build date of Week 4.

I do have a suspicion that we are being pushed back because as a demonstrator, the dealer can reallocate our build slot to more recent customers. But that doesn't matter too much because we have a contractual long-stop date of delivery by March 2017. A week 4 build suggests a Week 8 delivery to the dealer, and they will then only be able to use it for up to 5 weeks as a demonstrator before final delivery to us.

Our Beach is also DSG, and LED lights, climatronic cruise control and adaptive air conditioning.

Can you spot the early sign of dementia in the above!?

The early signs of dementia are obvious. You are remembering the past when there was some sort of logic in the VW ordering system and still believe you are living in those times when trying to explain what is going on with your order.
 
I have now been given a confirmed build date of week 45.
In case it gives any further clue to the ordering system the details are as follows :
Ocean 150 4wd. Bamboo Garden Green.
If anyone thinks a full spec of options would help I will post them.
Ordered 24th May. Estimated date given at time of order week 44.. Provisional build date given on 7th June of wk 44. Brought forward to wk 39 in July. Slipped to wk 41 then to wk 44 then finally to wk 45 about 3 weeks ago. Confirmed build date received today.
Good luck to all those still waiting in the fog of the ordering time-line.
 
Well, spoke to my dealer (Clive + VW Van Centre (Birmingham) today. A summary of relevant points are below.
  1. He confirmed that an extra allocation had been given to the UK but was coy about disclosing how many this was.
  2. Parts availability can be an issue which can put build dates back. He cited type of wheels and colours as a potential example but he also said it could be almost anything. In a previous conversation he told me DSG's were an issue matching up to the new Euro 6 engines but had been resolved. Interesting. I wonder if the much published supplier disputes in the summer are still simmering.
  3. There were no problems, as far as he was concerned, about allocation - unless, now here's an interesting one, your spec contains a part/option that is no longer offered on the 2017 Cali (Oct builds onwards). Should this be the case it is possible that it could get in the "Can't build that spec" / "well we accepted the order" circle and not get an allocated build date in the same way as another.
  4. It seems mine was in this loop - over the Two remote keys/one rigid key option. VW are no longer offering the rigid key option for 2017. This is now resolved.
  5. He accepted my order prior to running out of his allocation (24/8) but will be built to the 2017 specs. (Hence the issue with the key)
  6. "Spring" build/delivery is still expected. :)eek: that could mean April meaning 31 weeks for order to build!! Not the longest I have seen but certainly not the shortest! Just so long as its before March 31 I say!!)
  7. Currently he has 8/9 Cali's on order at VW
 
Relieved to receive a call from VWCS confirming that our 150 DSG Beach ordered on 9 March went into production today. Relief because our first confirmed date came and went several months ago!
