The bad news is that Guy at the dealership in Preston thinks that it may take up to 6 months to arrive (although I'm kind of hoping that was a cunning sales ploy of his to get me to get my order in sooner) but the good news is that at least I won't have to cough up for it until it arrives :happy

Absolutely cannot wait

Six-months appears realistic. We ordered in Feb, initially expecting it early July, but now hoping to get it this month - it's built and on its way. Plenty of time to plan!

Whoops I should have mentioned the spec:

We're not especially looking for luxury but practicality. We live smack in the middle of the Yorkshire Dales so, in winter, the 4 wheel drive will come in handy regardless of road trips and intend to put the camper to good use most weekends and on holidays. We're big fans of the Dales (obviously) but love the Lake District, the Scottish Highlands and islands, Snowdonia and the north west Wales coastline, Pembrokeshire and Cornwall and er.... loads of other places. We might even invest in pet passports for the two hounds and go even further :)

Welcome , they seems to keep rollin' in the new-to-be-owners....:thumb

Welcome! In 6 months you are going to have a2nd Christmas in March and plenty of time till then to sort out what you want to carry around or figure out where you want to go!

Ordered my Cali on 7th Sep and the order form gives an estimated delivery date of 1st April. Hope it doesn't turn out to be an April fools joke!

A quick question. It's now been two weeks since I paid my £1,000 deposit and ordered by Cali and I haven't heard a dicky bird back from the dealer as to the likely build date. How long before this usually happens - I think somebody else here had theirs confirmed in 24 hours?

This never ending waiting has already become unbearable :)

I enquired after a month and got the provisional date, they just dropped a polite email every fortnight and eventually got the confirmed date after 4 months.

I placed my deposit with Guy on August 8th.
I spoke with him yesterday at the van centre and he says he still has no official build date as yet on mine either.
I like you have been advised that it will hopefully be ready for collection around early March 17.

See t6 delay thread that will give you more ideas. Write your Christmas list and pass around relatives for your new arrival. The wait is worth it.

So, since ordering, I've already changed my spec to include differential lock too. I've also fallen in love with that dinky torch (that goes in the glove box?). Anything else that I should be thinking of do you think?

I quite like the idea of those sidebars (in black) but can't even remember those as being an option on the spec. I couldn't see them on the on-line cali configurator either. And other than looking great do they actually serve a purpose?

The black side bars are a dealer option and in the accessorie book. I've just placed my order and ordered them on mine

I've just been given a provisional build commencement date of week 48 which, if it holds, would mean an early January delivery :).

Thanks. Might ping my dealer (we ordered 5 Sept). Was going to ask about warranties and stuff anyway.

I phoned up after 3 weeks for an unconfirmed date

Welcome Stolly. Plenty of time to take in all the information here - help you pass the time ;)

Nice spec you list - very similar to mine. Did you order the dash inserts to be body colour?

Welcome to Team Blue :thumb

Your new Cali is not dissimilar from my spec, almost the same as Jabberwocky except that he has the coloured dash insert, which makes me massively jealous :sad !!! But hey, there is always vinyl wrapping!

Have you considered a towbar at all? Its one of those options that is relatively inexpensive and very straightforward to have fitted 'at birth' as it were, but a total nightmare to retro-fit (and 3 times more expensive). I've gone for the removable one, much neater.

We are a keen cycling family so I've already bought a shiny new bike rack, which has accumulated about three inches of dust on it whilst hanging in the shed, waiting very impatiently for the Cali to actually arrive :( Deposit paid in May, currently being built as we type, according to my dealer. Hey ho... I didn't get a confirmed build week until October, so don't hold your breath!

Plenty of very useful info on here though to keep you occupied whilst you wait, I've read the entire Beginners Section, twice....

I am still of the mind that I can't change what VW do so I consider that aspect to be "fixed" and that every new Cali delivered therefore must be one closer to mine! Patience and pragmatism being qualities of Team Blue. :thumb:thumb

Like you, S4B (hope you don't mind the abbreviation), I have read quite a lot here and am finding some of the topics compulsive but at the same time very informative. Gosh, still lots to learn!! :thumb

I've just had an update from Guy at Preston regarding our new Cali. It was previously confirmed as a week 48 build (which on my count means last week) and Guy has confirmed that it is indeed 'in build' :).

What I didn't realise it that the build itself can take 'up to 3 weeks'. After that, using Guy's worse case scenario at every stage, the van goes to Emden in Germany to await shipment to the UK and, depending on sailing schedules and weather, this shipment can take up to another 3 weeks before it arrives in Grimsby. It then has to await transportation to Preston and the transportation company are allowed up to 10 days to deliver it before Preston VW start chasing it, meaning that delivery can feasibly take 10 to 15 working days! Once in Preston I there are a couple of modifications to fit (bike rack and side bars) and, in any event, Guy is on holiday from 26th December to 10th January which might add to the mix.

So mid-January....... touch wood
