Cali Dogs

image.jpeg

We have a border terrier (with an added eighth of patterdale for extra bonkersness) aged 1.5 years and a border collie aged 6.5 years. Teasel and Harry.

Won't have our cali for months yet though :(

Fairly new to the forum, so thought I would add a photo of my two Cali dogs, Remy 14yo and Beryl 3yo, both border terriers. Loving their new camping holidays.

YAY for Borders! There are a few of us on here with the little darlings. I have three (used to be four but I lost my gorgeous old boy Robbie a couple of months ago) Phil who is 12, Thistle 10 and Fox (the thug of the group) 8.
One border is sensible, two is good, three is a challenge but four was just insanity!!!

Our Cali dog Tilly the Labrador likes the Cali when stopped but hates it when travelling. She pants and agitated. Tried her in her bed and bought a soft cage but no go! Any suggestions? Won't sit on bench seat either, neurotic about wearing a harness!!

Our Gus tends to be restless at slow speeds but goes into full hibernate mode as soon as we hit motorway speeds. My guess is it's the frequency of the vibrations and the gentler cornering forces at speed. He just has a bed up against the cupboards. As always, the earlier they're exposed to these experiences, and the more frequently through life, the better they tend to respond to them.

This maybe worth a look; http://www.adaptil.com/uk/What-Causes-Stress-in-Dogs/Dog-Car-Travel-Anxiety-and-Sickness-Advice.
I have not tried it but the cat version worked for a stressed out Siamese we had some years ago.

Perhaps it's motion sickness? We had similar problems with our border collie but lowered the suspension and now she travels happily in the back on a big bed on the floor.

Don't know if it helps or not , I had to sit on the cab floor (for a short distance) taking our dog to the vets , and I was surprised how warm the floor was and the vibrations from it . So I always have a extra padding in her bed now for travelling . Hope Tilly soon enjoys the Cali experience :bananadance
