Driving my one month old T6 Beach in windy conditions there was an annoying rattle from under the dashboard area. Nothing obvious internally so opened the bonnet and had a look around. It transpired that the blanking disc for the left hand drive windscreen wiper mount position was loose. Disc removed and instantly no more rattle. Subsequently refitted the disc with a dab of silicon sealant to hold it in place and am now enjoying rattle free driving. Hope this helps anyone else withe a similar problem.

Thanks Moresk.
My Cali is back with dealership to find 2 rattles. One is as you described; a dash rattle. Its sounds to me as if plastic wires banging/tapping or as if the wiper blades were tapping on the window? The rattle changes tempo when the wipers are on. Maybe its the same issue? The second rattle is (I think) linked to the passenger window area? We had wind deflectors fitted and I think they may be rattling off each other? Not sure but I'm looking forward to a solution as they are quite irritating...

I have one by the DSG lever. Press on the dash and the rattle goes.

Mine has a rattle too - somewhere in the region of the right side of the dash, or possibly in the pillar/door. Been too busy to look into it in depth, but it will def go back to the dealership to get it sorted. Mine won't go away with pressure to the various dash components and may either be engine bay or somewhere inside the dash. Its a shame, because the vehicle is otherwise fab. Can't wait for first trip, but have to get new home sorted first!

I have lots of different noises on a 2-week old vehicle. :) 1st I suspect a table in a door. 2nd pretty annoying a passenger's seat squeaking.
All those noises are better heard due to a good overall sound proofing of a vehicle and a large open space that add acoustics to it.

Cheers Moresk, this is the rattle I have had since day one but as I am always the driver (the missus is reluctant to give it a go as she says she won't "until you have bumped it first") was struggling to find it, this is a big help!
This is the offending article

Funny thing it fits like a tooth pick in the Grand Canyon so was always going to rattle!

Thank you Moresk, this rattle has been bugging me. Removed blanking plug and rattle gone :bananadance

Now stuck down with silicon sealer.

Thanks Moresk.

In relation to the "window rattle", do you have an Awning fitted?

If yes, then wind the awning out about 50 cms, then rewind, BUT do not over tighten as the gears are plastic and can be stripped if too heavy handed.:thumb

Thanks WG but unfortunately the rattle is on the passenger side (opposite from awning) but I'll give it a go. VW couldnt find the source after a lot (a lot) of searching but did find wiper plug rattle. They think the rattle may be resonating from elsewhere and just sounds like it's the window and I suspect this may be true and the sound does seem to move around a bit but is generally in the same area. If I find it I will post about it! J.

The power of the Internet! Cap refitted with superglue. Now no dash rattle, superb! :thumb

Dont know if anyone has had this problem - but I was suffering from an annoying intermittent whining noise mainly coming from passenger seat area - took me a bit of time to track it down, but again simple solutions are often the best gaga.jpeg

Very brave.

I took a nose under the bonnet of my 204 DSG Ocean. The angled piece of heatshield by the battery compartment was detached & sat in the gap in front of the battery! Now going to glue down the blanking disc!

Haaaa, nice one CALI FATE love this!
Just showed the missus this and got the tut of disapproval, but it did make me smile!! :veryfunny

Moresk many thanks for this tip. I had the exact same on my New Ocean and it was driving my crazy. At first though the noise was coming from the roof but it was exactly same as yours. Your post has saved me the hassle of a trip to the dealership so many thanks.

many thanks Moresk. owe you a pint

Moresk just wanted to say a huge thank you for posting the solution to your dashboard rattle onto this forum. I've been hugely disappointed driving my new T6 around being driven ragingly nuts by constant tapping which somehow stops anytime a VW technician gets in the van to check it. Turns out it was the same problem as you had & I've been so happy driving around since taping it up. If I bump into you out on the road you have a beer credit from me. Many thanks!

I still have a very intermittent rattle that sounds like it's on the passenger side. First thought it was the fridge lid turned out not to be. We then thought it was the petrol flap but I don't think it is now. Intermittent, it;s not there all the time, seems to come and go dependent what speed or road surface. It never get's any louder or tap faster no matter what speed we are doing when the noise arrives.

I have take to just pumping of the volume. No way VW would be able to trace it, since I cannot reliably create the noise myself.

Ho hum.

Try the windscreen blind or possibly the awning. Yep I know it's on the wrong side but I'm pretty sure I had that rattle and it stopped when I adjusted the awning.

Checked them once but happy to check again. Could be from under the seat or in the kitchen cupboards.

It's a tricky one.

Hi - I owe you a beer too - you will be very drunk if you catch up with us all that owe you a beer all at once. Mine had been back to the dealer for this under warranty - they could not find nor replicate the issue. A couple of drops of silicone on the two plugs for the wipers that you pointed out and I was sorted. Thanks again.

Isn't it bonkers that you spend stupid money on a van & then have this daft rattle drive you bonkers. The VW centres have no clue how to fix the rattle & we're all on this forum telling the next guy how to stop it?!

That was my though too - was tempted to tell the dealer to sign up and see all the gems of information created through the forums......
