Hi,
I'm looking to retro-fit front fogs to my 2001 Cali.
I've located all the parts for the lamps, mounting brackets, wiring, but I also want to source an original headlamp switch which supports the front fogs (double pull switch - see image). The backlights for the van's switchgear is red for this MY.
Would anyone know the correct part number for the red backlit switchset like this?
It seems this switchset is interchangable with the Golf Mk III, though it could be that the backlight colour is different, hence my quest for the correct part number...

Many thanks!

Matt

I've no idea of the part number but VW should be able to help. Failing that, is it possible to just swap the led?

I suppose that's the question... Is it an easy thing to change the bulb inside?

On the same note, anyone ever done this retro fit? Any ideas on the wiring connections from bulbs to switch?

I've found these, which is the basic lights and wiring:

Which I would need to couple with these for mounting (as my bumper doesn't have them yet):

But for these lights, if i manage to source the double-pull switch, how to wire the kit above into it?

It looks like a standard relay arrangement. There should be a spare slot in your fuse board/relay panel. Check the current flow diagram for a van that has them fitted as standard to see which position to fit it.

Once the relay is in, it should be easy enough to wire away to the lights and in from the switch.

If you can hang on till next weekend when I collect my new van I can look to see exactly how and where to fit.

Failing that, simply mount the relay somewhere under the bonnet and take a supply from the battery to the relay power input pin. Run a supply from the switched output pin to the lights.
Run a power supply to the switch and a switched supply back to the relay coil pin. Earth the other side of the coil pin. Earth the lights. Done.
I'm on hols at the moment and have a crappy wifi signal so I can't properly see the PIN numbers on the relay. I'll happily sketch it all out for you when I'm back in the uk next week.

Ok, pin 30 is your 12v power in, pin 87 is the switched power out to the lamps. Pin 85 is earth, pin 86nis the switched 12v from the switch.

Pin 30 is numbered such as it takes 12v from the power rail in the fuse box. Look at a current flow diagram/wiring diagram and it'll show the main power rail at the top, numbered 30.

So if you find a spare slot in the fuse box and plug in the relay it will have the supply there. Out of the back of the board take the corresponding output from pin 87 to the lamps.
The switch harness should have a connector that will plug into the back of the board and provide switching to the relay coil via pin 86.
Obvs fuses are involved at some point..

Pop open the fuse box cover and unhook the board so it swings down into the footwell. You'll soon understand how it all works.

Found the part number for the switch too...

This is for the version with the red illumination and both front & rear fogs...

Indeed...
I've bought everything, the lamps, mounts, cables and even managed to lay my hands on the correct switch (even down to the correct red backlight) - however, just don't have the time for the mo to install everything!
Think it will be for the spring, a lot on right now - but a progress report will come eventually :D:thumb
