I have recently been pondering two distinct problems, but my possible eureka moment to both arrived over my morning cup of coffee.

Problem 1 - what step to buy to access the roof from outside
Problem 2 - how my boys (aged 2 and 3 years) can eat their meals with us

Possible solutions to problem 1:
plastic folding step
plasterers' step up
steps

Possible solutions to problem 2:
Low table - using the children's chairs we already have (the table shown is too low)
High chair - using an adult table
Sit on cushions on an adult's chair and use an adult table
Somehow raise the chairs they have to be able to use an adult table

The eureka moment came when I realised that a plasterers' step up could be covered with a cloth and used as a child height table.

Ha, result ! Since I took delivery I like everything to have at least two purposes the more the better. I believe you have cracked that one sir. Good Job ;)

.
Just stand on the rear wheel or in the opening of the sliding door. Works fine to get inside roofbox.

More weight to carry.

It is when I have to hoist our tandem on and off the roof that this step will become really useful as a step. As a table it will be useful far more frequently. Unfortunately, it doesn't fold particularly small, fortunately the boys' chairs fold into it.

5.6 Kg out of a payload of 620 Kg for a standard specification 7 speed DSG Beach is < 1%.
Sorry, not quit correct. The Payload quoted is for a standard vehicle, excluding extra seats, fixed Awning and other optional extras e.g.: cycle rack, 80 L fuel tank.
Information from VW brochure.

It is possible that my options came to >60 Kg, and for that reason it is possible that 5.6 Kg of the payload of my specification Beach is > 1%. However, that is deliberately not what I claimed, and my original statement is "quit [sic] correct".

Oh Dear :Iamsorry.

Where will the Au-pair sit?
We, including our au-pair, sat in the warm inside, but Ben was so excited he insisted on sitting at the step outside to eat his lunch.
