I have had a look on the web and it seems ok. Thinking about going there after the factory tour in April. Has anyone been and is it worthwhile?

My plan is to head there also , it is on the way to Poland as we want to go and visit Auswitch .

Seems autostad is very big , possible not to be seen in one day but i think just go for the museum or so ...just get a general view ....you can stay overnight at the parking.

I thought it looked quite a big place.

With my parents in law living in Wolfsburg, I've been numerous times to the Autostadt. It's constantly changing, but the basic concept remains the same. You go in through the large entrance hall, with an impressive massive metal globe hanging from the ceiling. Once through the entrance building, you get into the sculptured gardens/outdoor area. There are a number of building to nose through. Each building is assigned as a showcase to a different marque that makes up the VW family, so there are buildings dedicated to Audi, Seat, Skoda, Buggati and Lamborghini, as well as a VW commercial building. This one had a cali on display the last time I was there. The buildings are architecturally designed to reflect the nature of the brand that they are showcasing and inside is like a modern art museum dedicated to the relevant brand.

In my mind the bast building though is the time house. This one is immediately to the left as you go in. You travel to the top floor first and then progressively make your way back downstairs. The top floor represents the birth of the automobile, with lots of exhibits of some of the first cars ever made, as you go down the exhibits get progressively more modern. VW have built up quite a collection of iconic cars from every decade and every brand, there are some truly amazing cars here and you get get really close to them. The collection is always changing as well, so it bears repeat visits.

The other site to look at is the iconic round glass towers. Essentially brand new cars from the factory are stored here until their new owners come and pick them up. Quite cool to see up close.

If you ever get the chance to be in Wolfsburg at the end of August, early September, they have the fire and water shows late in the evening, It's free entry and truly spectacular, seeing massive jets of water and fire all going off in time to music.
