...planning a trip late summer but have heard rumours of treacherous roads for larger vehicles and nudist campsites...! Interested to hear from anyone who has been!

Been there last summer for 6 days. The roads are indeed not too bad, sometimes rather narrow but all ok with a california. we did the 'Sentier Des Douaniers', Gorges de l'Asco, Haut-Ascot and drove around in the north and centre of Corsica. Didn't went to the south of the island (maybe this summer). Did some 'wild camping' (e.g. Ogliatro & Tollare: small fee, no facilities but gorgeous places), stayed at campsites 'Acqua-Dolce' (Saint-Florent), Monte-Cinto (Vallée D'Asco), Santa Marina (Luri). (Don't know about nudist campsites but there will be some, I guess.)
Corsica was part of our holliday at France & Italy. It's a very beautiful island with lots of natural attractions and we found the best restaurants along the narrow roads ;)
Enjoy!

Was in Corsica last year for a couple of weeks, admittedly not in a Cali, but just go easy. No rush! Roads are mixed in quality and drivers are OK and generally polite/accommodating when they see a foreign reg plate. We had no issues. Came back via Genoa - Now that's a different story!!

Without doubt these were the best restaurants - off the beaten track!

What can I say: Just GO! We spend a couple of weeks there last summer, drove the West coast down to Sardegna and La Maddalena's, and the East coast back up - and once across the Island. We only found one road where we had to give up (a pure off-road to a remote campsite on the northern island). Corsica is fantastic in so many ways and we are for sure going back again, and again … but be aware: No wild camping and open fire are tolerated.

Sorry for all the pics - I got carried away ;-)

Very true, no open fire. And no real wild camping allowed. There are some places were you can stay for the night (small fee e.g. 6 EUR) like in Ogliatro & Tollare but are not campsites (motorhome parkings). I described it as 'wild camping'. You can find some at http://www.campercontact.com/en/france.aspx?map=1

The Cali is ideal for Corsica. It's small enough to deal with any road I came across. We went right round the top to Cap Corse. The road is narrow with low walls and big drops, but our van ate it up. If you don't like the more adventurous roads many of the main roads are now really good. Loads of T4s and T5s in the campsites. Do it!

Just beware that when the Cruise ships are in port that there are lots of coaches of tourists visiting the beautiful Corsican countryside. They all drive in the same direction to avoid meeting along the narrow roads!!
