Hi everyone, this is my first post on the forum so I just wanted to say hi.
I'm not a owner of a T4 California yet, but I'm hoping to make my first camper purchase in the next few months.
I'm based here in the west of Ireland, so its difficult to find T4 California's for sale. I'm open to travel to buy when the time comes to buy.
I've already done some reading on the www.westfaliat4.info website, its a wealth of information, I didn't realise there were so many different models.
So any advice or tips for buying would be greatly appreciated.
Considering my budget I think all I will be able to afford is a T4. I presume that it is probably best to try and buy the newest one I can, also a bonus of the T4 is that I can can carry out any repairs myself.
I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone in the forum community.
Regards Padraic.

Welcome Padriac. I bought the first one I saw and it turned out OK. You are right that you can repair almost everything yourself on a T4. Good quality body repairs cost a lot so definitely look out for rot. I would recommend diesel and manual - just based on what I've heard and read. They get under your skin and I'm sure you will love owning and using one. Good luck with the search!

Thanks everyone for the welcome.

Hi Padraic

I've just arrived back from a week in Ireland on the east coast and just commented to my husband who couldn't come with me and my boys on our trip that I'd not seen any Calis on the road for an entire week. The only Cali I saw was an Ocean on the forecourt in a VW dealership in Dublin. Are they few and far between over there?

Ours is a T5 and we've only owned it a couple of months but it covered 800 miles to and from Ireland without a hitch and was a dream to drive. I've never undertaken such a big trip but the Cali seems to make you want to get out there and explore.

Hi Elaine, sorry I just saw you post now. Yes you wont see many Calis in Ireland, I don't know why, meaby its due to Ireland be quiet small and less opportunity to make lots of use like people living in mainland Europe have.
Yea I'd say the T5 is great to drive, I'm going to Italy soon and trying to find a Cali to hire but its not looking too promising.
I'm hoping to buy a late T4 in the next few months or when I can find a good one.
Regards Padraic.

Hi again everyone, I've been a member of this forum for a few months now, its been great to meet such a lovely bunch of people, and everyone has been a great help on my search for my first camper.
I'm delight to say that we have finally found and bought our first camper, a 2002 VW California Freestyle. We are delighted with it and heading off now for our first proper spin.
Regards Padraic.
