Looking for a T4 California

Definitely beneficial. The water tank was moved into the bottom of the wardrobe which freed up a decent chunk of more useful bootspace where it used to be. The kitchen remained the same fundamentally but became just two doors instead of drawers and doors of the earlier versions. The cutlery drawer is now inside the cupboard under the sink rather then being a separate drawer.

Thank you - were there any other changes made at the same time?

The roof supports changed sometime around then too. The later ones being lifted on gas struts rather than a cumbersome looking H-beam system. Also the central control unit on the later ones offered more control over the camper systems - heating, fridge etc. The earlier ones had either separate controls for the parking heater. Subtle little refinements really, nothing major.

Odd really. The drawer behind the door thing was just a moment of madness.
It’s just plain annoying!

The roof support system was far superior before and provided a perfect towel rail.

Water tank move was a winner as was the gas bottle move from cupboard to rear lower.

I have one for sale. It’s in the Cali’s For Sale on this site.

Hi Sleepyboy

T4, genuine Westfalia. Imported from the factory in Hanover and owned by a very good friend for the first twelve years of it’s life and by me for the last five years, so we have a full service history and know exactly what’s happened to it since day one. It’s always been looked after by ‘proper” VW people and had whatever it needed. It drives beautifully and has more power than you will ever need!

Cheap? Snap it up.

Thanks sidepod for your endorsement...bus sold yesterday.

Thanks also for all your T4 help. Love the clever bits on our T5, but will miss the T4.

I agree...
Don’t get me wrong, I love my T5, but I do miss the old t4. I think it’s driving LHD in an RHD country. Felt like a new experience every time we used it.

Great can and bulletproof

If any one knows of someone looking may well sell my 2002 California exclusive...will put it up in due course but wavering at the moment!
Maybe someone younger might benefit more!
