Hi everyone, my lovely wife got us tickets for the Goodwood festival of speed later this year. We are thinking of booking to on-site campsite.
We are just wondering if anyone has stayed there before and was it worth while.
Any comments tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards Padraic.

My husband and son went last year with a couple of other chaps. Husband says:

"It's a flat grass field with pitches mown into the grass to show your space. Each area has a portakabin with washing up sinks, several toilet portakabins and some really good shower pods with lashings of hot water. There are cleaners on site 24/7 and do a great job keeping the facilities in top condition and far better than many campsites we've stayed on!

The English summer can cause all kinds of problems with mud, and getting stuck is a real problem to consider! The weather was great last year. It is not the camping area which is the problem, but there are limited access points which get carved up quickly as the site opens on Thursday and doesn't close until Monday. There are tractors to pull you out, but it's not ideal.

In 2017 there were three large camping fields, but the first two fields which are closest to the road fill up very quickly from Thursday lunchtime. If you are arriving after this time, it is something to bear in mind with regard to getting out if it rains badly.

There are regular shuttle buses to the main gate but it is only a 10 minute walk and often quicker than waiting for the bus. The field we stayed in had a small marquee set up as a shop with basic milk, bread, sausages etc. There was also a caravan serving bacon rolls and cups of tea until just after lunchtime.

Remember this is an 'all comers' campsite and is certainly noisier and .. er .. 'wilder' than permanent campsites just the same as Silverstone or other motor races (!). It's good natured but noisy until well into the early hours, especially on the Friday and Saturday nights, so be prepared to take some earplugs!

Overall definitely recommended if you want to get the full value out of the Festival of Speed and don't forget to book early. If you want pictures we can put some up."

There you are, direct from the Horse's Mouth!

That sounds great. You´ve sold it to me.
It´s going on the list. Thanks.

+1 for veritys comment. My tickets are also booked. I go every year and wouldn’t miss it for the world, even better this year to have the van to sleep in :)

Thanks everyone for the replies so far. It sounds like it’s worthwhile.

Not camped before + FOS but we are booked into campsite H this year (EHU).

Queried parking for one of our group who would be arriving Friday...

The camping pitches are 9m X 7m so if you are able to fit the bike on with your camper that should be fine. If not, there is an overspill carpark on the site which your friend will be able to use for the duration of the event.

Also I believe there are three sites to choose from, including a family friendly.

Here are a couple of pic. They took two tents and the big truck but not the Cali - they were being rufty-tufty-all-drinking-all-sausage-eating-men not taking advantage of the wonderful, comfy, civilized Cali. There were quite a few Calis there, by all accounts though.IMG_20170629_174716.jpg IMG_20170629_191717.jpg

Thanks everyone for getting back to me on this. Campsite looks grand.

Not been to the FOS for years, used to go year after year before it got far to busy.

Imagine they know how to ‘charge’ big for a patch of grass ?

Last time I went in 2010 I parked Cali in the public car parks which I think were free and camped overnight for a couple of nights.

We are not going to FOS this year, but are going to Revival. I've booked onto Concierge Camping in Chichester. Not stayed there before, but have a booking there in July too to check it out.

FOS is great - you will have a good time :)

We went last year and had a fantastic time. Campsite H is a short walk from the Goodwood Hotel, where you can get spa entry tickets for a reasonable price and which provide a convenient and altogether more relaxing alternative to the onsite showers. The campsite is also close to the start line and there’s no need for a shuttle.

We stayed at Chichester CCC in 2017. Only a few miles from Goodwood but set off early or you will be stuck in festival traffic.
It's a good but small site so you need to book well in advance as there are many other people staying here and visiting the festival. Little chance of getting stuck in mud as there are gravel/tarmac tracks.
The festival itself was fantastic. We'll be back.

Can I ask how was Concierge Camping? We are staying next week.. Any good for walks or cycling or is that A27 a pain/noisy? Thanks...

Hi
Its a lovely site. There is a bit of road noise from the A27 but not too bad. You can cycle quite easily into Chichester or down to Bosham, probably too far to walk to both though. From memory there is at least one local pub within walking distance, but we didn't try it. It's a lovey area generally, try and get down to West Wittering beach if you haven't been there before and the weather holds.
