** Important News: New Vehicle Registrations on Hold

Apologies for encroaching on your California owners website but this is the only place I have been able to get any sensible information over the past 2 months. You see in January I went into my VWCV local dealer to decide whether to replace my 3 year old Caravelle or to extend the warranty. Unfortunately for my bank balance there was a lovely two tone Exec 4motion sat in the showroom. After long negotiation the deal was done and arrangements made for me to collect the next day. Then it all started as the dealer found they were unable to register the vehicle and you all know the rest of the story. It appears now having received the letter and agreed to proceed with the purchase I am just a few days away from taking ownership. The upgrade is done and the certificate applied for. I await an interesting discussion with the dealer regarding the extra £400 road tax which as yet has not been mentioned. I have found the best way of keeping updated on progress has been through this forum which I have been reading daily with great interest. I also feel better equipped for that awkward inevitable discussion. Thank you.

Be fair! Not all has been sensible information.

Welcome to the forum, and we look forward to your first trip report - with photos.

Oh - and do let us know how you get on tomorrow. And ask for free monster mats if they refuse everything else (my dealer gave them to us without being asked along with a brace of VW camper mugs).

A warm welcome to you.

We do of course want to see lots of pics of your lovely vehicle once you take possession :D

I hope it all goes well for you.

Your new Caravelle sounds great. As for bank balance:) Welcome to the forum.:welcome

In the end you do what you need to do, but legal action is expensive and very stressful. For the sake of an easy life I would see what I could get from the dealer (things that they can easily supply) and move on.

Now that is really is some excellent advice.

Anyone who has had any experience in the courts will understand, things can get very expensive and consume not just days or weeks or months but infact years of your life...

I finally got hold of Jay today. I asked for clarity on who was going to pay the outstanding VED.

He informed me that he’s still working on it and asked for the rest of the week to try and sort it out.

On the plus side, the padlock has been removed for my vehicle so it can now be registered :)

Excellent news!

I went to see my dealer today, he seems confident that I’ll be able to pick my van up next week... the wait is nearly over. He thinks the update has already been applied at the factory.

I’ve signed all the finance paperwork, agreed a part ex deal on my car and chosen a registration number so should be good to go when the van arrives at the dealership, let’s see.... Easter is looking like a distinct possibility.

Oh, and it has a name. Funky Bus (reg ends FNK)

Excellent news. Ours has been registered too.

It's not even at the dealers yet.

We're hoping for pre Easter pickup too.

. Understand how "loss of bargain" is applied in contract law. Seeking redress through the small claims court is not expensive £100 ish online fee to pay. .

There is no "loss of bargain", as there is no breach of contract. It's the last time i'm going to say it - read the small print on your order

The wording on standard order forms have been drawn up over many years by lawyers to give the car dealers all the protection they need. A dealer is only acting as a middleman effectively buying the van off VW & selling it to you, they have sufficient get out clauses just in case, as has happened here there are problems with delivery.

Its £65 to start the small claims process, but that is just the start, if the defendant doesn't just roll over theres the £40 court allocation fee, up to £325 hearing fee. Even if you win you don't get any legal costs back & only limited expenses. Of course if you loose, its cost you your time, court fees & you can have some costs awarded against you.

Even where I've had a 100% watertight simple case at court as a claimant & won its always left us out of pocket.

I wouldn't start shouting too much on a public forum about taking a dealer to court before you've even taken delivery, you might just find your deposit refunded & "your" van for sale on the forecourt.

You guys should enjoy your new vans and make memories after all we only live once? Try to forget about the VED cost, you will have sleepless nights. 50k+ on these beauties so what’s an extra few hundred quid (2 nights in an overrated hotel without breakfast) :thumb

I received the letter on Saturday and confirmation today that our Cali should be available to collect on Friday. Looked at the paperwork in great detail which they asked me to sign and absolutely everything is exactly the same as it was originally agreed. No tax increase, no change in figures so i am in exactly the same position as when I signed in October (except for the inconvenience of being late so one planned trip away being cancelled, a bit of concern on whether it would happen at all and £250 vouchers as a gesture).

As long as they throw in some monster mats, I’m ok with that!

anyone that thinks a 'few extra hundred quid ' is nothing is crazy why accept that. I wouldn't . sick of hearing that it's nothing on a 50k van. I disagree .I work hard and still getting over the shock of buying my van. 400 quid is alot of money to just throw away on nothing because you have too much money to care.it's a disgrace and i would 100 percent cancel my order. sod them.keep your old van. buy a registered one. sod em. get deposit back. I think there will be a glut of 2nd hand unregistered vans to choose from soon enough

I to work hard to earn an average wage and I’m certainly not an “idiot” I was mealy saying that a few hundred extra after spending 50k can soon be lost...truthfully how many people got carried away on extras that added thousands?? maybe if you smoke do drugs or drink 4 bottles of wine a week, give up or cut down you can soon recoup it. Just trying to help people forget the fact of this crap situation and enjoy themselves with their families or on their own in their new California’s for years to come!

If time is money, we've all of us spend far more than the tax increase just talking it to death... Bring on the spring! My dealer isn't answering his phone :headbang

I like this forum because the people on it are generally well reasoned and the information is valuable to me.

I understand that tensions are high because this issue has been going on too long but I would hate to see this forum descend into slanging and abuse. Let’s leave that to Facebook!

I quite agree and whilst we want this forum to be as open and free flowing as possible if you feel a post has exceeded reasonable comment then please use the report button.

Is there anyone who received a green light to register a Calli with a manual transmission?

I hope that all new owners are going to post pictures of their new vans on here...
Certainly will when I’ve looked up how to add a photo. I’m sure it won’t be too difficult. I think you’ll all be tired of looking at the amount of new Calis on here. Everyone has been so helpful while this fiasco has gone on it’s surely the least we can do. :happy

Another good(ish) reason for buying a Dealer Demonstrator mine was taxed for a year with 10 months left when I bought it.
Also there are brand new Cali’s available, like ours which we are picking up on Friday. I know the dealer has a number of other new ones in stock.

I was told yesterday the the “update” for the non-conformity would be carried out on ours during PDI.

The RFL on our order is down as £555 (204 Ocean) so I’m a bit puzzled by some of the figures i’ve seen on here

204 just stays in the lower 1st year band of £800 so if you are being charged only £555 I'd keep quiet.

TDi 204 2 wheel drive is now 190g/km if it was 191 it would have been £400 extra or inline with the TSi 204.

Nasty bit is the 4M DSG is rated at 205 so £1200 first year VED plus the April hike soon.

Can't see how a FIX puts the emissions up. Wonder what the pre FIX reading actually was.

Here is the section from the order on the RFL which shows the emissions as 169, was that what they were before?

This is what I paid last November on a 204 4Mo:

I think that your order shows the band below that which is 151-170 + £500, plus £55 first reg. fee.

The old 204 DSG was 169 which would put it in the band below. Maybe your dealer is simply honouring the original order (as you would hope they would do). Questioning this doesn't seem like it would do you any good.

Edit: 169 was from the March 2017 brochure. The MY18 brochure (Aug 17) says 177. I'd definitely keep quiet.
