We just had our 2.5 at a licensed VW garage to fix a timing problem that caused the car to enter limp mode at high strains. Now, the fan goes ape sing after a short trip. Turning the car off and on turns everything back to normal - as if it’s still going into limp mode. It runs very well with no problems at all, except behaving a bit asthmatic due to the fan noise.
Anyone got a clue what’s going on?

Sounds like a trip back to your garage is in order. They may of disturbed a sensor connection or something while resetting your timing.

Hello @Egronnes. Did you ever get this problem resolved? Interested to know.

I did, but it wasn't a cheap one. I found the timing belt was maladjusted by three teeth by Halfords in Shoreham. There was also a few sensors (all temp related) and the dash indicator sender that needed replacement. We just did all the repair at the local VW dealer and ended up with about 1000 pounds for the temp sensors and stuff plus the timing belt adjustment at about 250 pounds. Now the temp gauge works perfect, the fan is quiet and driving temp stays steady at 90 degrees.

We've just spent about 2000 punds on what Halfords should have done in the first place when they had everything out.

Gosh. I’m sorry to hear it’s been so costly to get everything corrected. Thankfully it sounds like your Westy is running sweetly again. I hope it hasn’t put you off returning to the UK in the future to explore our country further. Happy campervanning.

Never ever, ever take a vehicle to Halfwits. I amazed it ran at all.

I wouldn’t even let them clowns change a light bulb

Well, we had to learn the Halfords lesson one day, even if it was the hard way.

Oh, in no way whatsoever! We’re coming back in a week days to get married ON CAMP!!!

Awesome! And congratulations. Whereabouts are you hoping to get to? Or are you going to see where the wind/weather takes you?
