Summer holiday is usually our time where we have the chance to travel around in our Cali for more than just a weekend trip. This year we start as a family of three and have no idea where to go or how this works for us. And so far it works and is just great.

We started in Basel to visit the Écomusée d‘Alsace http://www.ecomusee.alsace/en/. Nice place to start our trip!

We decided to drive to Camping Kirchzarten and stay there for two nights. Wrote them a mail, got answer very quick and set off. As others already mentioned: nice place, bit crowded as it is high season (so no complaining) and lots of kids. The pitches are mostly made of grass and some are quite big and other are almost small. We found one next to a small tree and enough space for us:

Sounds like the nest way to have an adventure Just do it and have a great summer holidays!!

That's the way to have a holiday in a Cali! Just get up and go! Enjoy and have a fun time. We are starting our trip in a rented Cali to Scotland later today. Nothing planned other than a rough idea of the direction that we need to head in :)

I loved Scotland even though we „only“ had a rented carStay save and sound and post some pictures, please.

Three nights in a row so far sleeping upstairs with a 3 month old is okay for us. Actually it is the best way. We are both not so tall and can easily sleep upstairs and our son is next to her. In the morning I can stand up earlier to take a shower while two are still sleeping.
And sleeping upstairs means less unpacking and that‘s a good thing!
At the moment we are staying (again) at Alpsee Camping in Allgäu. If you like camping with open fields, not crowded and no kids: Do not stay here We knew this place from our first camping trip with our son in Spring and we knew it would be crowded this time (holidays and situated next to a lake). This doesn‘t bother us atm, we are happy to drive as far as we can and stay somewhere nice (next to a lake or with good facilities). So priorities shifted def in an other direction (from „wild“ to „comfort“) however we‘re staying here for one night to head south. Miss S wants to see Ljubljana again or Piran...let‘s see how far we

So after leaving Alpsee Camping in Allgäu we drove over the Fernpass in Austria to pass Innsbruck and took the 169 to Zell am Ziller and then changed to 165 to arrive at Krimml. The route was great especially the part from Zell am Ziller to Krimml. At Krimml you find yourself in a small, touristic town with a beautiful view to some waterfalls. Great area for hiking and exploring these waterfalls. We stayed here at Hotel Krimmlfaelle. They offer a camping place for Euro 24.- next to their hotel. We could use their facilities (shower and toilets were open long and early).

We had dinner at the hotel and it was quite okay (dish of the day for Euro 14.-).

We arrived in Camp Danica yesterday afternoon. They renovated the bathroom right next to the reception (now got a sink in the shower), added electric hook up for cars/to rent a Renault Zoe (Euro 40.- plus 17.- insurance):

Yesterday we had to drive to a VW Garage because the engine light flashed and asked me/told me to check immediately. I called Totalmobil (a deal of VW, when you always do your service at a official dealership, you get certain benefits) and they directed us to Autohaus Pontiller (https://www.autohaus-pontiller.at/), where we called in advanced to ask if it is possible to come right now. They were very friendly and handled our case as soon as we arrived. It seems like a small button underneath the breaks was broken and something with the turbo was wrong. The button was changed very quick and the turbo was something more time consuming or would be. As it was not clear what it was they said we could easily drive on and bring it again/show it again when we‘re back home to do a proper check and if needed repair. And off we went again with a slightly worried feeling but everything went well so far.

Loving your updates. Also a family of 3 going away in August currently without a plan... You're giving us some good ideas. More updates please. :)

Ah... cool... our boy is 6, so we've been through various sleeping / travel devices for kids - as a baby he used to like to sleep in a travel cot on the parcel shelf - worked really well for us. As he got a bit older we graduated to various carrying gadgets - which did get a bit much on one trip in particular - couple of pics attached... have fun!

Love this. It is like him saying "me is super comfy - do not disturb!" :)

My kids would have rolled of the seat just as soon as your back was turned.

Amazing! Looks super snuggly

Thanks for sharingI see we‘ve got a lot to improve and learn

It rained in the evening so we took the lid of our cadac safari to cook inside. No rocket science but it worked well and was delicious.

After three nights we left Camp Danica and we are both sure we are going visit it again (would be the third time then). One thing which needs to be said is: as the main part of the Camp is an open field it is sometimes hard to find your way out because of all the tents, MH and vans. On the other side it is nice to camp as large as you want and you aren‘t restricted in space.

Piran was our next stop, two hours of driving means to add at least 30 min break between for our youngest passenger. That‘s okay and we are in no rush. At the moment we usually start with him sitting in his MaxiCosi and me driving. Miss S has the hardest job: Switching between entertainer and Chief of the navigation. Thanks for that! Wouldn‘t work without you!

Edith: As some of you know we have been in Piran last Autumn and it was fantastic: off season, still warm enough and more relaxed than in high season. Of course we didn‘t expect that now in summer however it was quite okay. We arrived in „our“ usual parking garage (https://si.parkopedia.com/parken/parkhaus/gh_fornače/6330/piran/ ) and strolled to the town, ate some seafood and went back. It was too hot so we left early although the sea looked great for swimming.

After Piran we wanted to drive to Saksida Wine http://www.vinasaksida.com/in the Vipava Valley. They got some mobile homes, tent pitches and pitches for motorhomes, a small pool and a area to cook and sit together on rainy days. And as soon as we left Piran it started to rain. By the time we arrived in it stopped raining and we found a nice spot for one night.

We wanted to spend two days in Ljubljana so we booked us a room at Rooms Ambrozic, left our Cali in the Parking Kapitelj and enjoyed the lovely capital of Slovenia. The City is great in Summer or any other season. Plenty to see, walk, eat and do. We walked to the castle, strolled with our son through the streets. Best was to carry him in a Kangorooh-bag im front of us rather than walking with a pram on coblestone streets. We enjoyed the coffee (Flo, Lolita, Magda or Čokl) and the local food market. Had some lovely dishes for lunch (Paninoteka) or dinner (Dvorni Bar) and we felt very welcome with our youngest.

From Ljubljana we drove to Novo Mesto in the Southeast of Slovenia:

The city lays on the river of Krka and has a small medival centre. At the moment they are renovating the Glavni trg which looks like the central place to visit. There is also a monastery of the Franziskaner. Personally I think we‘ll visit again when everything is finished here becuse it looks very nice and less crowded in summer than Ljubljana.

We stopped for a walk and a coffee and planned to go further on in direction of Maribor.

From Ljubljan to Novo Mesto was 1h drive and then again to Celje took us 2.5 h. We drove on the A2 until Drnovo and then followed the river of Sava and the Savinja to Laško and aimed for Camp Dolina in Prebold.
https://www.dolina.si/

The small camping has everything we needed. Even a small pool and a friendly host. Actually you camp in his garden behind his house. Euro 21.- for all uf us incl. electricity and city tax. Only thing we missed, if you intend to stay longer, were pitches in the shade. Best would be to park on the side of the reception.
