Hi all. New here from Barcelona, Spain :thumb

We ordered a Beach 150 DSG mid August, and though I realize the wait is still loooong, maybe somebody can help on following:

1. What can be expected as build week for us?

2. Is the trend for lead time going in the right (shorter) or wrong direction currently?? I heard some issues with the emission testing should have been resolved and hence, delivery times getting better. Maybe I am just too hopeful here o_O

3. Can somebody link to an article explaining overall what the whole EmissiontestGate is and how it affects lead times??

Thanks a LOT!!

Tom

Oh - thanks for such warm reply and welcome here :)

Now, there is no dubiousness to those questions. The Barcelona dealer simply put us off with "4-6 months - maybe more" and reading here and in other forums, that does not seem to cover the whole truth. Could be better, could be worse ... hence the questions.

We are travelling currently in California (yes, the American state - unfortunately not the camper van), so I may not exactly be on Lindau time right now, if that is what you find "dubious" about my post. And I an Danish, living on my 17th year in Barcelona, if my dubious (German) sirname confuses you.
I promise I won't share any dubious links or spam her, sir! Thanks for any help further on!

You should have posted under the dubious threads thread.
Why don´t you ask your dealer those questions.
if he's genuine I feel for him. a bit. ok. no I dont

;) really no reason to feel sorry for me, mate. Going to a Beach Boys concert now with my wife here in Santa Barbara, so that should be lush.
Happy night to you!

I don't think they have a clear view of wait times at the moment due to the problems around WTLP emissions testing. My own Beach (ordered 15 May) got build week 33 but now delivery has slipped into November.

It seems VW have been hit hardest of all the manufacturers by WTLP, presumably because of poor practices in the past.

I ordered my ocean from motorsol in Barcelona last September and it only arrived in July. It was promised in December... In the end I kicked up such a fuss they gave me a caravelle until it arrived which was fairly decent of them, but still frustrating waiting for so long. Loving it now though!

Thanks a lot for that, both. We ordered from Catalunya Wagen in Zona Franca, where they gave us little to no clue on how VW seems to be solving these issues :headbang At least they didn't promise anything, but told us "expect worst case"

Thanks again! Tom:thanks

Ah, Spain you see. Everything, even these days, is Mañana Mañana Mañana. Oh what fun we had when building a home here in Cervera del Maestre!!

Barcelona is way better on this, than known from Manolo from Faulty Towers haha. I have seen worse in northern Europe. And didnt this issue originate from Nothern Europeans with deep pockets, rather than environmental concerns?? :talktothehand

:mute:mute:mute My post has been removed :mute:mute:mute
Why did it need removing ????
Could someone please point out which bit needed censoring.

Anyway Thomas, There was a thread last week about Dubious threads and yours
popped up.

Your first post, Hi i´m from Barcelona with a stars and stripes flag on your shoulder
asking what your build week will be.
I would´ve thought your dealer would have had a better clue.
Obviously i am wrong with this assumption, i was told today about someone
who has ordered a VW Tiguan in May and they still don´t have a delivery week.
So good luck with the wait and :welcome

Ordered mine beginning of August was built in wk37 and dealer reckons delivery in November. My take is that there is no great backlog of orders through the factory rather the delays are only associated with the emissions testing. Vehicles are evidently stacked up all over the place from a number of makers, no one seems to know but Im expecting once the first ones come through then the rest will follow quickly only held by the logistics. VW will be wanting the cash to start rolling again asap especially as this is affecting group companies like Porsche etc as well

Awesome. All good! What @Legin mentions about the backlog not being that bad, so lead times may be getting shorter. Still surprised that VW are not posting any of this forward to their dealers. Longer lead times is definitely no a competitive advantage while selling vans... Thanks a log for input here. T

We orrdered our Ocean last weekend......and very excited! We were told by VW dealer that if we ordered before end of Sept then that will fall into their quota for quarter (ended Sept) with delivery expected by end of year. I don’t know how realistic that is - if it slips into 2019 then not a disaster however anything later than March 2019 would be unfortunate as we are already planning trips away in ‘Montie’ - hoping that post testing (if indeed that is part of the delay) then the backlog will be fulfilled quicker than expected.

Hi Steve & Bev - apologies for being a bit dense but would that be an 18 or 22 week delay for 2litre dog 4 motion?
Just want to check I’m reading table correctly! Thank you

Same vehicle as me, I read it as a 12 week delay if your build week is in the quoted range. Mine was wk 37 so should expect it in Feb 19 was Nov 18

Update.
Just spoke to the dealer. His take on it is that my car car should arrive in wk 52 from a build week 37. He said ordinarily a wk33 build would be at the dealer now. In reality he is just reading off the same info above I suspect. The reason for delay being type approval delays.

Thank you crossing toes and fingers that December order will arrive in June

Some of the 150 DSGs must have already slipped through and been tested.

Ours was ordered 30th July, Build Week 36 and is already in the UK at the Port of Sheerness. Another couple of weeks and it should be at the dealership week 42/43.

I’d say that’s ahead of the table above unless I’m misunderstanding it, and should give some hope that not everyone will be subject to delays.

Hello. This is my first post here, and sadly I am not YET a California owner.....

Way back on 24th July I ordered a 150DSG through the dealer in Crawley. I have yet to even receive any idea of build date or delivery time, despite my having frequently asked the dealer. Today the dealer even confessed their own frustrations, and gave me the number of Customer Service (some central team) to call. I did so. Yes, they mentioned something about emissions testing related delays, but the person I spoke with was at pains to say they knew absolutely nothing about build or delivery date. And then they said I shouldn't have called anyway. Deeply frustrating. It's interesting that others on this forum have similar stories, though it seems my dealer is a little less with-it than some. I'll keep hassling him and post any info here if I get it.

I call Customer Services every week or so as they are normally more responsive than the dealer. We’re paying a fair chunk of money so they should be ok with a few phone calls. Ask your dealer for the order (SLI) number which they should have if they submitted the order.
