What have you bought for your Cali today :-)

Hi Steve&Bev.

We have just returned home from a few days away. This time we used only the stainless steel goblets for cold drinks, all our other glasses were left at home. We have tried them with white wine, red wine, beer, raspberry lemonade and ginger beer. All tasted just as they should and we really like them. Unfortunately we didn’t get around to the gin and tonic but I am sure that would have been good too. These are definitely a hit with us and we will keep them in the van all the time.

We seem to now have a shelf dedicated to stainless steel items. We also have a cafetière, an espresso pot and a milk frother which we use in both the house and van.
I'm guessing that paint roller grids will work but I needed something more "formal" ;) so went to Camper Centrum in Amersfoort. Rather expensive but removed niggle at €24. (Its rather annoying actually - rattles like crazy unless fridge is loaded. Sister in law says she has seen something at B&M for more suitable (and cheaper!!) and will buy me one - will post photo when arrives.
Oh, and we don't have a 5 second rule we just leave it there!! lol! ;). Yes, I know my Cali needs a vac.:embarrased
Extra roughage . . . for those without a dog.

Lekue silicone bowl/bread maker. This smaller version will fit in my Cobb grill/oven. It’ll make a small (125g of flour torpedo loaf - which is great for a substantial “sub” for 2, up to 175-200g flour for a small round loaf). Would also be great for people with the folding camp ovens or the Norwegian Gstove that has the oven accessory on the flu. It would also fit in a Dutch/camp oven on a trivet. I used it in my Ramoska oven (electric), I know some people take them camping (I don’t, but use it a lot at home).

As a concept it’s great; measure, mix, knead, prove and bake all in one bowl; circular or torpedo shaped loaves. In practise, it’s brilliant. If you are thinking of getting one, this is the small (retails at £14.99). There is a larger version, but that doesn’t fit the Cobb (retails at £19.99).

For more info on it go to this bread making thread in “Cooking in my Cali”: https://vwcaliforniaclub.com/threads/bread-making.28194/

Which engine do you have? You noticing much difference with the intercooler??
Intercooler not fitted yet as I'm waiting for chance to use my mates workshop rather than do it on my drive, plus it's easier removing the bumper with two to hold it. Hopefully, fitted next Tuesday night so I'll let you know what I think to the upgrade then. My van is 2.0 TDI 140brake, six speed manual Highline Kombi.

Bought a Honcho Poncho from Therm a rest. In the picture my two beloved ones wearing the poncho and one covered by the poncho (he was not amused).
A pit pricy but good gadget to keep you warm in a simple way. Of course it is cheaper to just throw a sleeping bag over your head and open the zipper (as I almost did because we only bought one poncho)

I really like the look of this, thanks for sharing Sapto.

We have some fleecey honchos (use at home & camping) that double up as blankets in the van. Also great if you sleep with nothing, or little, on and have to get out of the van in the night to go to the loo, let the dog out, etc. If I want to mooch around a campsite lazily in the morning, pre shower, I wrap the back bit round me, tie with string round my waist and let the front hang in poncho style. You can tie the whole honcho round you but it feels restrictive and you look like a sack of spuds.

We’ve also had Thermorest Dreamtime self inflating mattresses for years in our Hiace and hope they’ll work in the Cali because they can be used in or out of the van. Their products are expensive, but such great quality they’re well worth it.

Haven’t got our Cali yet but I’m concerned about using anything that has zips that could scratch the interia. Have you guys got any comments on that?

Hi Sapto. If you have time, could you do me a favour? When laid out as a blanket what size is the honcho, length & width?

Jumped on the cali cap 800mm calidrawer bandwagon tonight. Also bought the upper shelf for above the fridge/hob for useful storage of cups etc when parked up. Hopefully receive them in a few weeks.

My Calicap drawers arrived this morning and didn't take long to fit. For reference, the runners with the horizontal tape go on the RHS and the runners with the vertical tape go on the LHS. Watch you don't stick them on upside down as I nearly did!

To make sure the tape sticks I pointed a fan heater inside the cupboard for a few minutes to heat the surfaces up (and me!).

Before starting I translated the instructions on Google and a copy is attached for anyone who might find it useful. Good luck.
