New EGR valve check dealer proceedure

Just had my 2016 T6 150ps into the dealer for the dreaded roof corrosion but they also did an EGR valve check at request from VW. Came back as clean and clear so all good. If there were issues the chap said that they have a new machine to clean them. Something about connecting it up to the exhaust system and injecting some cleaner. Thought the info might be useful for someone! Cheers, Jon.

T6 150, 12,000 miles.
Recent 350 mile drive + a couple of 1 hour plus drives ( each direction) locally.
Sat in very slow moving traffic for 20+ minutes yesterday, before full operating temperature was achieved, followed by a 1 hour drive, then parked up for approx 1 hour.
When engine was restarted the orange engine management light came on.
A further 1 hour of hard driving, revs kept artificially high (above 2000 rpm) to try and clear the issue had no effect.
Called VW assist who sent out an AA patrol, this morning, hooked up via OBD,
fault code “P040100 Exhaust-gas re-circulation low flow rate”
Fault code cleared at my request.
AA says this is quite a common problem, so much so they now have patrols with a piece of of equipment that will clean the EGR valve in situ.
This has now been booked in for insitu cleaning via mobile AA patrol( not at dealer)
Will report back after the cleaning, I’ll try to take some photos and post here.

Incidentally the AA man said VW dealer will try to clean the valve three times before replacing the EGR.

Been mentioned frequently on the T6 Forum.

@Perfectos I had exactly the same fault code, and the VW assist guy gave me the same info... I posted in this thread as an update following the Cali being booked into VW... https://vwcaliforniaclub.com/threads/egr-cooler-t6-2017.16805/post-448509

I believe I read some time ago on this forum that a EGR valve is more complex to work on if it’s a DSG !

We recently had the dreaded EML on and limped home as were were on the A17 and it was getting dark so thought it would be safest. The following day I called VW Assistance for a home visit as per the glossy brochure. They got a tech to call me back and stated as the EML was not flashing and I was not experiencing power issues, drop in mpg or vibration I needed to drive to the nearest VW van centre - they were not interested in the fact that was 50 miles away! The van dealer was shocked and not aware of this policy change. Outcome was an erg flush and a software tweak (apparently to shorten the erg opening time). Had to wait 2 weeks for the parts though. Fingers crossed the software fix stops it happening again.

Just had to have a new EGR on out nine year old Yeti 140TDI. About 70k miles but for obvious reasons only very short trips over the last eighteen month or so which is what has knackered it. 4wd made it more expensive, £750. I guess quite few Calis will be in the same boat with short trips.

Some photos from the EGR cleaning procedure on a 150 DSG & the replacement modified pipe design, to assist others (also posted in another thread)
