I am away in my Cali trying to pluck up courage to use my domestic toaster. It is rated at 1100 watts and has a 13amp plug. So am I OK to use this on a CMC site on EHU or do I risk plunging the site into darkness and burning my van to the ground.

As a Rule of Thumb, divide the Wattage of your appliance by 240 = amps required.
So your toaster 1100/240 = approximately 4.5 amps.

So, any campsite that has a Mains supply of 6 or more amps is OK.

This last weekend, I have purged my Cali of all unwanted clutter, prior to a new beginning.....Remoska, Mains Kettle & Toaster, Iron, various odds & sods....OUT.

Plymouth to Santander Ferry, this weekend towing a Dory out to my adopted homeland....Portugal. Mind you a few days at lovely Abergavenny has been nice, was warmer here than PT when I arrived back last weekend.

Plug it in, the worst that can happen is the trip will drop out on the supply box, which if it does just needs resetting. I doubt it will though.

Toaster is beside my fridge, (out of view) U.K. hook up will run a fridge and kettle or a toaster normally with no problem. Van also on hook up at the same time.

Why are you using a mains toaster when a folding camping stove on a gas ring works perfectly, and takes less space

1. I am staying on a CMC site. Electricity is free. My gas isn’t.
2. I travel on my own with no clutter ( toaster notwithstanding )therefore space isn’t an issue.
3. I just fancied some toast.

Had I been touring in the wilds of Scotland my toaster would be safe and sound at home and would go nowhere near my van and if I felt the need for some toast I would take my very portable contraption that sits on top of my gas burner. I hope that answers your question.

As a toast fanatic and total newbie. How good are the gas ring toaster things? Do they cook fairly evenly?

The op above was on about a folding stove with the grill function under the main two rinds (I think) if in U.K. hook up and you have the space a toaster is the best option in my opinion. The gas option does work ok

Saves on cooking gas, but uses extra diesel carting it around and think of the reduction in storage space!

A relatively low wattage camping toaster takes up very little space and is unlikely to trip even continental 6 amp supplies, produces much better toast compared to the somewhat sketchy gas hob devices in my experience.

My toaster including the box weighs 129 grams ! Hardly going to affect the consumption of a vehicle weighing 3000000 grams !!!

Dis engage brain and it will not affect anything !
