My three year factory warranty expires next week but I have the two year extended warranty on my van however in the information I can't find if this includes VW Assistance breakdown cover ? Do I need to get separate breakdown cover after the 3 years are up ?

Yes.

Yes. You can renew the VW Assistance, same European wide cover etc: for about £160/2 years.

Is your extended warranty the Factory Extended Warranty? The one you had to buy/register within the months of purchase?
If it is, in I've been assured by my dealer it is the same as the first three years and included VW Assist.

Edit - VW Assist confirm there is NO cover on years 4 & 5, it has to be purchased separately.
Dealer updated!

The Factory extended warranty is only the warranty and it does not include VW Assist.
I called VWCS and checked. Called VWA and purchased 2 years for £150 last November

Not correct. Check with a dealer who knows the product.

I have just checked the terms and conditions and nowhere does it state roadside assistance is included?

I did the same.

I went with Safeguard who gave me the breakdown cover.

Glad I did as it’s now sat outside.

The lack of paperwork with the Factory Extended Warranty is shocking.
I had read on this forum several times VW Assist was included, but some say it wasn't. The big difference seemed to be Extended vs Factory Extended Warranties.
When I checked with the dealer I got this response:
"It is my understanding that the roadside assistance stays with the vehicle for the extended warranty period also. It is definitely the case with the standard extended warranty, so naturally you would assume that the factory extension carries the same benefit."
Perhaps not positive enough an answer in hindsight.
But then again, VWCS have not been the most reliable of sources of information...
Has anyone, with a Factory Extended Warranty, called VW Assist when in trouble to be told they were not covered?

I said something similar to VWCS and pressed them on the like for like warranty and after being transferred twice during the call I eventually Spoke to a product manager who explained it in a different way.
He said it something like this; when you buy the vehicle VW give you a 3 year warranty, they also separately give you 3 years roadside assistance. You can choose to purchase a 2 year limited mileage extension but you cannot purchase an extended roadside until it expires.

I can only add my tale to the story...

I bought my T6 last march on a 19 plate.
Within 3 months, I purchased the 2 year Factory Extended Warranty, this I was told by my dealer, definitely came with Vw Assist. I had an email from the dealer to back this up.
Once I received my paperwork for the Factory Extended Warranty, I questioned the fact that no where was any ref to Vw Assist.
After many emails between the supplying dealer & Vw UK, it seems that Vw UK does not extend the Vw assist into years 4 & 5 after buying the Factory Extended Warranty.
But... the dealer (after a little bit of persuading and maybe a few veiled threats) paid to have the Vw assist for years 4 & 5. I now have an official, credit style card with my registration number on, saying that Vw Assist is valid until March 2025.

Hope this help!!

My van was three years old in March 2020 so I’ve recently been through this whole process. I purchased a 2 year Factory Extended Warranty and a 4 service (2 interim, 2 full + first MOT) package when the van was new. I‘m sure that I was told that the Roadside Assistance was for 5 years as the extra 2 years came with the extended factory warranty. I contacted VWCS but they confirmed that this was not the case. In all fairness, there is no documentary evidence to support an extra 2 years of Roadside Assistance with the Factory Extended Warranty. Therefore, I have just purchased another two years Roadside Assistance for £145 ( It costs £90 for 1 year or £155 for two years, with a £10 reduction on both for auto renewal. If you later decide to cancel auto renewal there is a £10 surcharge).

VWCS were only able to confirm that the Factory Extended Warranty had been activated and registered on the VW system (make sure you have the original receipt as this appears to be only paperwork issued by the dealer). VWCS were unable to deal with anything to do with the Service Plan or extending the Roadside Assistance as these are independently managed by VW Financial Services and AA Developments Ltd respectively.

A definitive answer from VW Roadside Assistance - The Factory Extended Warranty does not extend VW Roadside Assistance.
I am somewhat frustrated by the lack of knowledge of different parts of the VW group and the poor information about the Factory Extended Warranty. Like others, I have had to ask lots of questions just to confirm the warranty, which I paid for, had been registered. And now it seems some of the 'cover' I was told was part of the extension isn't, after all!
Oh well...

Here's the official response for everyone else's information.

Subject: RE: Continuation of Roadside Assistance

Morning

The Extended Warranty does not include an extension to the Roadside Assistance policy. The cover on your vehicle expired on **/**/2019.

You can still extend the cover with our team on 0800 912 1441 if you would like too,

I looked in to extending the warranty with VW at the end of 3 years.

After reading all the details, it became obvious that the VW extended warranty has many more exclusions than the 3 year MotorEasy Extended Warranty I bought.

It also provides recovery to a garage.

I opted for a 15k mile/year limit and no excess with their Comprehensive policy.

It is significantly cheaper and has less exclusions on cover.

There is another Extended Warranty thread on here should you better want to understand the details.

Hi I phoned VW about this they said it includes breakdown cover.

Apart from your telephone call, do you have any other proof that cover exists?
Membership card?
You could speak direct to the AA that administer Vw Assist. Without proof, I would not trust Vw customer services. I would hate for you to be broken down in the middle of nowhere with cover.

Absolutely agree. I do not think that the VW Assist is included in the VW extended warranty.

Check this out form VW.

Also if you have time check out what is and What Is Not covered.

I think that you will be disappointed with all the exclusions that are imposed with the VW extended warranty.

I love some of these threads they just go around and around in circles.

See my email from VW Assistance saying it doesn't!
Service manager informed, and he's checking it because he thought it did.
The problem is that if VW Assistance say no if you have a problem you're stuck.
Poor on all levels..

This is a different extended warranty from the factory extended warranty. The factory one must be taken out within three months of registration.
Your link is the insurance based version that can be taken out at any time.

I was provided the link by VW themselves, as my vehicle was coming to the end of the standard 3 year term.

This VW extended warranty is only available to registered owners within 1 month of the end of the 3 year term.

This VW policy is only available for 1 extra year, and for me had a price of £699

I did a lot of research in to what is available and eventually selected MotorEasy.

For a 3 year policy with their comprehensive cover, with a 15k annual cap and £0 excess, I was able to negotiate to £1200.

Importantly, I will be given the option to extend further once my present policy approaches end of year 6.

The policy covers more than is covered by the above VW policy....importantly including things like the DPF and EGR which are known to give issues.
