Just about to push the button on a new California Ocean, I have the choice of Fortana Red or Indium Grey just can't make my mind up. They are identical spec with Woodstock alloys.

Members opinions would be appreciated regarding colour choice.

Thanks in advance

Are you planning on keeping the vehicle longterm?

Indium is apparently the most popular colour choice, our previous Cali was Indium and I thought it looked great. Hides the dirt quite well too.

Fortana looks amazing when clean and is not a common sight on the roads - I don’t ever remember seeing a commercial van in Fortana but I see plenty in Indium!

What does your partner think colour wise? This time around I let my wonderful wife choose - so we have Ascot Grey with black wheels, bright stripey interior mats, a stuffed toy cat on the dashboard and decorative bunting everywhere…

Having traded in an Indium Grey 6, admittedly a conversion, for a Fortran’s Red 6.1 Ocean, the Red is by far a more eye catching colour. I love it, it gives us a far nicer base colour to accessorise and has a general warm feel.
It seems to mask the day to day dirt a little better too, imo, and you don’t see anything but a Cali in this colour (so far).

Indium grey is great for practicality - I’ve had 4 of them, very easy to live with - but is a bit long in the tooth now, VW really need to move on. So we’re now in Ascot which is great, and I would go with red over the indium - looks fresher, particularly if you upgrade bits to match the sports pack - fortana and black highlights is a great combo.

That's a great point regarding not seeing many commercial vans on this colour. My wife is leaving up to me.
I do like the Ascot Grey especially with the black wheels. That would have been one of my choices if available.
Thanks for your feedback

Thanks for your comments. Changing the wheels is something I will probably do if I go for the red.

Thanks Kev,

I did view the Fortana Red on a sunny day and the colour did pop.

Both great. So if happy with both go with the best spec.

As others said: whatever you prefer really.

One notable thing about Indium Grey however is that it’s an impressively boring color and makes the van disappear in the glut of similarly grey cars out there. And that’s the whole point. If you want something really discreet that will not attract attention, Indium Grey of what you want.

Back when I visited dealers looking at Californias before I bought one, I spotted a stunning two-tone Ocean on a dealer’s car park. I spent sometime looking at it and at the different options it had. I was about to leave when I realised that the van behind it was also a California - but an Indium Grey. Despite the fact that I was specifically looking for Californias, I almost didn’t spot this one and assumed it was a standard Transporter because it was so… grey. It really does work.

Aesthetics aside, I would go with a colour that is more noticeable on the road - you will want your pride and joy to last and I feel that Fortana Red will be 'spotted' (hopefully) more so than the grey.

Now the aesthetics - the red coupled with a nice set of black boots would really be the business.

Thanks for all your comments today, it did help me decide on the Fortana Red. Picking it up on Wednesday
Great choice imo … I am a bit obsessed with keeping it clean as I don’t like the colour as much if it gets dirty…. Great excuse for hours of polishing which I find therapeutic.
