This is a pain - I was insured by LV but they wont' insure me any more - and trying to get online quotes is basically impossible because i put in my registration and nothing recognises it as valid.

If I go to "pick my vehicle" then all the databases go VW / California / 2010 + - almost as though a pre-2010 california doesn't exist at all according to some , presumably standard industry database that everyone uses.

Has anyone found a way around this?

Thanks

Steve

Ripe insurance covered me this year (may) wasn’t any problem at all insuring my 2007 California.
Also saved quite a bit of money as well, was using comfort since 2013 but this years premium from them was quite expensive so shopped about and went with Ripe. They also use Aviva as their insurance underwriter same as comfort.

When you say ‘nothing recognises it as valid’ that suggests it is not matching to DVLA records. Have you checked say looking up your MOT history to see if it is correctly reported by DVLA.

I had this happen this morning. Trying to get quote from Admiral, put my reg no in ( 2019 Ocean) and it doesn’t recognise it. Had to add all the details manually.

Just a thought, but are the two examples of trying to use comparison sites simply blocking the regs of anything that isn't a car?
I know when I have tried to use such comparison sites my reg has been rejected for that reason.

When I had my 2013 California insured with Admiral their database didn’t recognise the California as a model so my policy had it shown as a Transporter.

Try Adrian Flux insurance, they cover motorhome and conversions.

I noticed today that comfort insure pre 1992 campers so they might be worth looking at for your 2010.

update - it got complicated. Comfort were able to quote but since we keep the vehicle on the road "not insured if it's out of your sight" clause was a non-starter for me. Other quotes were messy as I also need cover for volunteering work (coastguard, which puts me in the awkward squad due to it being a "blue light" emergency service and a lot of people won't cover that).

comparison sites don't recognise the registration so it's a non-starter, then other sites say "it's a van" when you start a car insurance quote. You switch to their "van insurance" page and are told "it's not a van". not recognising the vehicle from the registration (nor it being able to be picked as a vehicle on the manual dropdowns) meant that every quote was a half hour labour of love answering the same questions from different humans.

Ended up going with the broker Gallagher who LV passed the details to when they declined to quote to renew - and I still don't know if I am covered for coastguard calls or if I need to use another vehicle. It was a fair price but doesn't also cover me 3rd party on any vehicle so I have lost cover for more money - but run out of time to do anything about it
