Apologies in advance if this is not the right section and I also searched for similar issues but couldn't find exactly same issues.

I have a 2021 Cali turning 4 years old in May with 30k miles. Unfortunately it's off the road for longer periods (4-6-8 weeks). Then I either charge the batteries, or go on a longer trip to get everything charged up.
Last week I wasn't that lucky. Ignition switched, but car didn't start. Took the batter out, took it upstairs and charged it overnight (reconditioned). Put it back in in the morning and to charge the work batteries I took it for an hour drive to the airport and back. Yellow EPC warning was on dashboard along with I believe radar cruise not working (another yellow one but not. check engine). Everything worked fine, so I though these will go away once it's gets it's legs stretched.
It did charged on the way to the airport (upper screen showed charge and batteries started to load also). Stopped there to pick someone up and when starting up the car at airport the red battery icon also came on and got the "battery not charging, pull over" message. As I was at the airport which is a 20 min motorway drive home and everything seemed to work I drove back.
Entering the city I had to stop at a traffic light and when it turned green the car wouldn't pull. Then shortly after everything shut down.
Long story short, jumping it didn't work (so it wasn't a batter fault) and it seems that the alternator is not charging the battery.
Took it to a service station where they diagnosed (not sure if only through OBD or checked voltage on alternator) and they claim the alternator needs replacement. They'd charge close to 2000gbp for the replacement all-in. I have doubts though whether it's really the alternator that broke or just a wire, connection, etc. It's a 4 year old vehicle with only 30k miles on it.
Any similar experiences ?

I'm leaning towards to ask them to charge the battery, drive home (10 minutes drive) and then take matters into my own hands. Remove all batteries and recondition them, and then check whether alternator charges (check voltage direct).

I have no experience but I would 100% charge the battery (or replace) and get it home to investigate further. Putting a multimeter across the terminals with the engine running will tell you if the alternators working. Actually, the control panel should say too if it’s over 13v.
