We will be taking delivery of our new Cali in two weeks time and have two insurance related questions. Firstly I will be insuring the Cali as well as my existing car, I have 10 plus years NCD, can this be shared? Secondly we are initially taking the VW finance for the deposit contribution. When we have bought new cars on finance before we have always taken gap insurance. Can anyone recommend a Gap insurance provider or is it not necessay? Thank you

Loads of threads on insurance.

I went for one of the specialist insurers and chose Comfort. They have a clause which gives replacement within 36 months or 15,000 Miles. You will have to have a word with them or read contract to see if you are eligible.

Thank you, I will give them a try.

They have a 48 hour rule as below:-

Not a problem to me but some feel it is restrictive.

Been discussed at length previously.

You won’t need GAP insurance with Safeguard as they replace new for old for two years or 15K.

NCB can’t officially be shared, but some insurers will give introductory discounts that reflect your good record.

Bought my Cali in June and insured it from Safeguard. The VW dealer recommended them. They were very competitive with European travel included at £550.
They were very good and efficient and have good reviews. Hope this is helpful.

We also used Comfort. Don’t bother with VW. After 10 mins trying to explain to them that a Cali doesn’t have 5 doors we conceded defeat.

Re NCD, it seems to be disappearing as a meaningful concept. Insurers now seem to quote a spot price based on your claims history etc.

But strictly, as 2into1 says, you can only 'apply' an NCD to one policy at a time, although you can of course build up multiple NCDs if you keep multiple vehicles.

As always the best advice is just to shop around as much as you can. And that means at every renewal too, to stay on the best deals (insurers will be quoting low to get you on board, then aiming to quietly ramp up your premium in renewal years - ie a 'loyalty punishment').

Used Safeguard and ALA Gap insurance for 5 year cover. If you get ALA through Cashback a decent saving is made.
