Hi so today my 2010 Cali very suddenly and unexpectedly gave me an airbag error warning light and alarm from the dashboard. One minute everything was fine 90 mins later when starting the engine the airbag light lit up and text saying airbag Fault is displayed everytime I start the engine up. Ive no idea why this might occur. Has anyone else experienced this and if so what was the outcome? Many thanks, Colin

Yes, quite a few of us. It's usually the loom under the drivers seat, so that's the first place to look, especially if you have swivelled/moved it or stored something under there.

Unfortunately you need the dealer to check and reset it (unless you know someone with Vagcom software and hardware.

Colin (too)

Cheers Motacyclist I'll have a look tomorrow, fingers crossed it's not a big expensive repair job ;-)

Where about's are you? There's lots of users who have a VCDS lead that can check it out for you. I have one you're welcome to use if you're anywhere near Brighton

Hi CannellWalker, many thanks for the links. So I was wondering whether my luck had changed and that I had stopped hemorrhaging money on my Cali as it's had all and I mean all of the known usual faults, and so with the airbag thingy I guess the answer to my question is no, not quite yet!! Off to vw - again :-(

Cozmo Dude, we're in the same boat as we had it happen the other week for the first time. Airbag light and a trip to a dealer for it to be reset. Did have work done on that loom under the drivers seat years back when the heated seat stopped working mind. Possibly related.

I've had 3 airbag faults in the last 18 months in my three and a half year old Cali. All just showed up as the orange light on the dash and a message when turning the ignition on.
The first was a wiring loom fault under the drivers seat which was probably my own fault for putting too much stuff under the seat and swivelling it around. This was fixed under warranty.
The second, just a few days before the 3 year warranty was due to expire & whilst being MOT'd , was the passenger side firing mechanism. Again this was fixed under warranty.
The most recent, just a few days back turned out to be faultily air-bag control electronics unit. This showed up just a few days after it had been returned from having the paint blisters on the roof finally fixed; I'm guessing, probably a coincidence. At first I was told that this would cost me as the warranty expired back in March. My local dealer ( VW Van Centre Manchester) applied to VW to cover the cost and much to my delight they agreed to pay 100% of the £350 bill.
So whilst I'm not happy to have had so many air-bag faults, I am at least relieved that my local dealer got VW to pay up. Fingers crossed that my air-bag system is now free of bugs.

Hi Cozmo,

Carson Cars in Fancy Road can help you with this. Chris reset the same problem with our cali only a couple of weeks ago and cheaper than Breeze. It is only a five minute job.

Cheers Alan. I'll give them a call and get it booked in. My concern though is why it went off in the first place. I've checked all connections and couldn't find anything loose. Maybe they can tell with their equipment where the problem occurred from?

So my problem turned out to be a worn out plastic connector plug under the passenger seat due most probably ( I am told) to the constant spinning around of the seat when we go camping. Could have been worse I suppose. £85:00 for part, labour and resetting of warning light on dashboard. Will this £35k vehicle ever go just a few months without something going wrong????

I triggered an airbag fault whilst installing a 12V auxiliary power socket mounted into the top tray in the middle of the dash. I disconnected the connector to the ON/OFF switch in the left side end panel panel during the install (had to remove dashboard panels to get out the drinks holder) and forgot to reconnect it before turning the ignition on.

The airbar error is a latching fault, so will remain on even if there is no fault.

Grrrr....

I didn't fancy spending £85 or so just to go to a dealer to reset it, so after much research I bought an iCarsoft i908 at almost the same price.

It works a treat, puts you in control and may reveal other faults (I now know I have an air sensor fault, whatever that is). I can also use it on my wife's Polo and my son's Seat.

Thanks, that's handy to know, I tried several other VAG gadgets previously and none of them worked on the CANBUS system of the Cali; even though they said they worked on all VW's.

Can the icarsoft one change settings as well as reset error codes? I.e if you had say the Steering wheel control buttons added.

My airbag warning light came on today with message Error: Airbag on the dash.
Is there a way of sorting this or is it a dealer visit?

Thanks.

Has to be electronically reset so a Dealer or VW specialist, or as @T6 CFO said someone with a Carista dongle or similar

Thing is never turn on the ignition if you have disconnected something. Sure fire way to trigger the warning light
