average mph

Sounds about right, went to a clients site today in Catford South London so M1, M25, A12, Blackwall Tunell, South Circular & back about 130 mile round trip travelling at the speed limit according to sat nav so about 77mph on the speedo where appropriate & todays average is showing 41.7mpg, my overall average is 37.6mpg but have only covered 3000 miles in total & one of my regular trips is to a client in Tottenham 40 miles & 2 hours each way.

In comparision we also have a 2 year old mini cooper diesel my overall average in that over 45,000 miles is only 48mpg.

I have had a career change & my mileage has dropped from about 25k per year down to 10K so it may be time to sell the mini.

:thumbMine usually says upwards of 40mpg, around 43-46 being typical on Trip1 display, as it is over a single journey (or day's journeys if breaks are less than 2 hours (I think). However, Trip2 will be a better indicator of longer term economy and, like most cars, this is proving to be a little higher than real fill-fill measurements on mine, though only about 4mpg out which is pretty close really. I am averaging 33-34mpg fill-fill (SE 180 DSG) which IMO is good for the first 1500 miles. I reckon as your Cali is lighter and a bit more run-in, you will be getting a fair bit more than me so 44 probably isn't that far above reality :thumb

so what is the difference between trip 1 and trip 2 modes? what does each do...I read the manual ages back and gave up trying to work it out...
mine seems to fluctuate during journeys...anything from 37.1 to 44ish...

One setting gives you actual mpg for the trip and resets if engine off for 2 or more hours. The other shows Average mpg, I think.:(

Trip one rests to zero after an hour.

Trip two continues running until you reset manually.

I use trip to to record my campaign journey, such as my last trip of 1,800 miles. I use trip one for small, daily, multiple daily, recording of anorak detail...

Trip one rests to zero after an hour.
I thought it reset once the engine went cold but I have no scientific basis for this nor do I read the manual (it's too hard to read and too many safety warnings, too many variations Multivan, Caravelle etc etc etc ... one day I'll find a PDF version and delete all the warnings so I can actually read it!)
