Awning on the opposite side?

Good Evening All,
This one probably sounds a bit odd!

I wonder if any one can advise on putting the awning on the opposite side of the van, i.e. - the side without the side slide door. Is there anything i can buy to run through the gap on the top of the van (i normally fit my washing line in it) that would then allow me fit my awning. I have been told the cali is made with a specific size, and most kador strip does not fit the gap on the van.
Currently i fit my awning to the wind out canopy - in the grove thats a little way in, the normal way, but wondered if the opposite way was possible.
