Hi All, my first post on this site, so please be gentle, I've found many other posts very useful, so thought I might be able help someone. Having recently removed our bench seat, when attempting to replace it, the screwdriver holding the locking mechanism open, fell out, just at he point the seat engaged with the runners, the bench was stuck solid. The release handle could not be moved up enough as it fouled on the drivers seat base, faced with removing the entire seat and base or a trip to VW, decided to check the forums out here. Discovered a magician of a guy in Witney, Oxfordshire, by the name of Colin Wastie of VW Van Conversions, (07799 626310), he appears to be a VW seat specialist. He sorted me out in 10 mins and wouldn't accept anything like his estimate despite having given up his Saturday afternoon. Top man!!

Great to read some positive news. Thanks for posting.

Good job.

Did you find out how to do it yourself next time so you can share it with us, in case someone suffers from the same problem?

Hi,
Colin managed to remove the rear plastic panel of the seat base, once that was "wiggled" out of the way there was enough room to move the lever fully, I did feel feel a bit of an idiot he made it look so simple, but still not sure how the panel releases, must check... will report back if successful.

The plastic panel very simply pulls off, now I feel a complete idiot, knowledge hey, it's such a powerful thing!!

No problems. You can now write something on your conto for a diy job, what a lot of us don't can, because we don't know it.
