Hi all,

Looking to finally get a removable towbar fitted in the next couple of months and need recommendations as to the best place. Will be ferrying in to Portsmouth, so somewhere < 2hrs from there would be ideal, but willing to travel.

Our Cali has towbar prep from the factory, so hopefully a little easier for the dealer/specialist to fit.

Was originally going to use Breeze Totton, but spoke to their parts department this morning and was left thinking I should probably investigate other options before booking it in. They're currently without a service manager, and I'm not sure whether they have a suitable specialist there that is going to do a good job of it. The £642 bill was also a little scary, but at not massively higher than expected!

Happy to consider non-dealer fit if there are competent specialists around.

Any advice very gratefully received.

Hi they do have a Cali specialist there his name is Ryan. The reason the genuine one costs as much as it dose is because of the full intergration with all the vehicle systems enabling trailer stability control parking sensor adaption and many more other Benefits. I would urge you to go genuine I’ve had to repair so many issues with non gen due to poor fitment and poor intergration with vw systems.

Totton did my cambelt/water pump, and a full service when I lived on the south coast and I would happily recommend them. Poole are also very reliable in my experience. Can't comment on Portsmouth as have never used them. Was too far away

All of them can fit a towbar as this is the same for any of the VW T5/6 vehicle range. Who ever you use, as @Vw guru has said, do get the correct wiring fully integrated with the vehicle CanBus system.

Hi Alibee.
We had a towbar fitted at Phil Taylor towbars last week they are based at Horndean not to far from Portsmouth, they do know there stuff choice of Westfalia
Or Tow trust we did not have Trailer Prep All was fitted coded full demonstration
In less than 2 hrs the guys there work as a team.
If you decide to go for a Westfalia bar you will need bumber supports, the Tow trust does not .

I was recommended by another forum member there post code is PO8 0BB
PHONE NUMBER 023 9259 4675

Hi Alibee

Have a look at a recent thread

Hope this helps

Thanks all, extremely helpful and much appreciated.

Spoke to a couple more dealers and discovered that the 'official' removable towbar is completely out of stock until May. Not good for someone going away in April! The only silver lining is the loom extension is in stock everywhere, but the hardware is nowhere to be found.

Got straight onto PF Jones and ordered a Westfalia model, but am now aware that it may need additional bumper support...

Still not decided as to who will do the fitting but at least there's something on its way to fit!

At the back, just under the bumper.
