Brandrup Air Screen

Hi

does anyone know where i can purchase a Brandrup Airscreen ?
its a clear screen which slots into the awning rail and covers the kitchen sliding window
allowing ventilation but keeping the rain out

Or if you are handy, make one.

Sheet of thin Acrylic from eBay.
Some Nylon cord, Duck Tape and 2 Suction Disks. Lay some cord across 1 end of the sheet and secure with Duck Tape. Makes it thick enough to go in the Awning Rail slot, and hold.

Other end, same but with a longer length of cord secured with tape.

Cut ends to suitable length and attach to Suction Disks. Voila, Cheaper, a lot cheaper, than the Brandrup offering and can be made larger to give more protection.

So today I did my own version of it, less than 15€ in total, very easy. Bought a 2mm 25x50cm sheet of plexiglass, 2 L joints, 8mm door hinges , 2 screw knobs. Screws and washers had lying around.
First I modified the 2 L joints to an angle of 135°. Took some measurements with a mock cardboard piece, then drilled holes in the plexiglass, smoothed the corners and ..voila'.
The sheet of plexiglass is situated underneath the side rails, so the rain should drop on the plexiglass and not drain down the sides in the tiny gap between the plexiglass and the van, since this gap is underneath the rails.

LIke it ! We have the air screen and have used it a fair bit. It does what its designed to do, but do find it a pain to store, as its a fair size. When travelling I stick it to the back of the bench seat and trap it between the seat and the extension. But it becomes an issue when you want to deploy the bed and have to find somewhere else to store it. So more often than not. I stick over the window just to get it out the way.

Your solution looks a lot easier to store tbh. Nice job

I was also concern about storing it, but being flat apart from the attachments it should be easy to store. Need to find a smart spot for it

Awesome handiwork there. That looks neat.

Now go make a label for the steering wheel - "Air Screen Attached" - lest you drive around with it fixed ! (which will be fine though as the fixings are strong, and you will get a lot more waves)
