Cali-killers....

I love the retro tourer. Followed him for a while and such amazing value (£££) compared to some of the other dodgy van conversions I’ve stumbled across.

@Blueeyedboy , been in one of those in a showroom .
All looked very nice and solid .
On my way to work i pass one parked up on the street...

I like the look of the Polyroof and terracamper.de vans. As usual: personal point of view.

Our move from previous Holdsworth and Autosleeper conversions and Cali was to a Wingamm Micros. Made as a single piece fully insulated GRP monocoque with comfy drop down double bed, blown air and underfloor heating, insulated frost protected tanks, storage for chairs BBQ etc behind the drop down rear bumper and a very decent bathroom . Living area can be ordered as a L- shaped lounge or a double dinette. Suits us perfectly (for now!).

Very nice: looks like an intelligent solution if one day our Cali should not meet our demands anymore.https://m.facebook.com/happyt6cali/

How do you get to the bed?

There is a ladder provided but we generally just hop up from the seat in the lounge.

I really like the look of the Flow Camper. To me, it gets back to what a campervan should be all about, no bling or excessive gadgetry.

And the multi-use (Beach-style) MPV concept with easy-in-out modules will appeal to families, and might even suit me as there are quite a lot of times when having just the bare van for day trips, carting stuff around and pub-stop overnights, without all the immovable fitted kitchen gubbins, would be ideal.

(Yes you may ask, why do we have an SE (that's a T5 'Ocean', for newbies) rather than a Beach? Good question...).

Here's the website (in German but the text translates well with Google Translate): https://flowcamper.de/flow-modelle/frieda

I'd probably have one without the flowers on the side but that's just because I'm a boring old git.

I would swap my California for that! looks amazing.

.....from Russia !

Shame the Niva is just a empty box doh ...

Looks amazing but I bet it's thirsty and how do they compare in price?

We get mid 30s mpg with our 4 motion 140 6 speed manual packed up and with 2 ebikes on. It's pretty much the same unladen weight as a Cali @2600kg and relatively streamlined at the front but squared off at the back to get the maximum bathroom size.
Price wise - we were lucky as they they shot up 20% in 2016 with the pound slide. Importer Rockin Vans hope to have demo vehicle at the Scottish camping show in February so guess prices for 2020 from them.

Good afternoon,

Interesting posts.

I spoke to my VW dealer about an upgrade from a 2 year old VW California Ocean, 150 HP, FWD, manual to a T6.1 California Ocean, 150 HP, FWD (4motion is far to expensive in Ireland), DSG. I've been told that with the trade-in I still have to pay around EUR 30.000!

And this is my point. Volkswagen asked for a lot of money for their, yes I agree, good products. But it makes me think that for alternatives for the same price I get even far more, or with similar specifications I pay less. I really love my van, but everything connected to the van or to Volkswagen is so expensive.

In Ireland I am a little restricted of what is available. But living in Central Europe their are a few very interesting offers that might be able to beat the California (even if it hurts to say that).

Regards,
Eberhard

How old is your California...?

Good afternoon,

well. a wee bit more than 2 years July 2017, 35,000 km on the clock, good condition.

A new T6.1 California Ocean is EUR 79,405, trade-in EUR 50.000, rest almost EUR 30.000.

What would be the reason to change:

  1. I would like to have DSG!
  2. Few improvements (better front blinds, radio, new HUD, new dashboard
  3. Extended warranty - 5 years (most important)
4motion is only available with the big engine which would make the vehicle another EUR 7,000 more expensive. I am too old and lazy to rob a bank... and even the banks won't have that kind of cash available anymore! ;)

Regards,
Eberhard

I thought perhaps they were being a bit silly with the part ex price.
But 50k don’t sound to shabby...
Looks like the new price is becoming really silly.
80k...???
