Just doing this at the moment. Fitted the solar panel yesterday and I'm getting a transparent piece fitted into my topper, once I've got some free time to get it done.

It might be worth getting whatever the transparent material is and trying it over the panel (before you modify your topper). The technology is always improving but not long ago, I played with a panel covered by clear glass and the performance dropped off lots!

Nick put a "window" into our topper. Works fine.

Nick will be doing mine. When I spoke to him about it he said that he'd done a few already, also it doesn't take to long to get it done.
All my preparation for the coming months is finally coming together.

Or use a pucer roof screen.

I haven't bothered, because if I'm using the Topper, it's cold, lashing down with rain/snow and very cloudy so the output from the Solar Panel is minimal anyway.

As above a transparent layer of Glass or pvc will reduce the output of a panel significantly. Worth testing before you modify anything.
