Hi everyone,

I've tried a search on the forum but I couldn't find anything on servicing the California both from an engine and habitation perspective. Do the dealers perform a check on the gas/water/heating systems as part of the annual service? Also in the event of problems with gas/water system are the VW dealers qualified to perform any work that may need to be done?

Love this forum - so much useful information for a newbie - thank you all in advance.

Don't let a VW dealer anywhere near the habitation side. Need to find a specialist (caravan / Motorhome type) to look at the gas once in awhile.

Luckily we have a Motorhome specialist locally but as the VW will have a three year warranty surely they have to be responsible for any issues that may arise with the gas/water system? The worry would be if there was a gas/water problem during the three year warranty and you got someone else to fix it would that void your warranty? Are the VW dealerships not equipped to service the entire vehicle?
Apologies for all the questions.

Do not let a VW Van Dealership anywhere near the Habitation Area to service anything there. All they know is " Replace ".
Having said that there is very little to be done.
1. Gas valve and rubber tubing has to be replaced every 4yrs.
2. Water System - there are no serviceable parts. They either work or not and if not either need cleaning or replacing.
3. Clean and sterilise water and waste tank and pipes annually.
4. Check operation of gas cooker at least annually + gas leakage test.

Many of these checks can be carried out by the owner with a gas safety check done by a local Caravan/ Motorhome centre.

As far as the Diesel Parking Heater is concerned. Very little to go wrong and nothing to service. It should be run periodically/ monthly for an hour at a time and if there is a problem then I would go to an Eberspacher dealer, especially if out of warranty.

Thanks very much T4WFA and WelshGas - I will definitely heed your words and not let the VW dealership near the habitation side of things. Many thanks WelshGas for all the information much appreciated.
