Getting excited, first overnight in the new van tomorrow.
Having read the Campervan bible the author refers to the "camping box", a box which sits by the front door packed with all you need for a short break in the van.
My question is what do you pack and what can't you do without on a short weekend break??

I have two boxes. They are the boot "tidies" from Vango sold from the club shop. They do not sit by the door but rather live in the van and are restocked the moment I get home. They are only ever taken out when I am using the van for it's large non-camping trip carrying capacity.

First box is maintenance essentials, spare bulbs etc, stuff for my bog-in-a-bag, snow socks, the plug that fits in some european bollard ... .....all items I am unlikely to need on a regular basis. That sits at the back.

In front I have all my creature comforts: Large cooking stuff, hoses for taking on water, a variety of footwear from running shoes to hiking boots, spare food essentials such as boxes of tea bags and a space for wine not being carried inboard.

My wardrobe is permanently stocked with spare fleeces and something posh should I just turn up somewhere that requires it. Equally the underseat drawer is permanently stocked with clothing essentials.

Keeping it stocked means that I do not forget anything.

I also have a cupboard that contains "specialist items". I have a "dog box", long leads, short leads, bowls, seat covers and all the other stuff I need when my dogs travel with me. Nothing forgotten, it just gets pulled out and put in the van.

Our van is ready to go.
Just grab the beding bag from the back room, hook up cable(if required) and milk from fridge and we could be out the door in a few minutes.

Things you needs for camping just stay in the Cali all nice organised , we pack clothes , food , and stuff adapted to the actual trip (summer/winter) last minute.

When new to Cali camping just take some stuff from home witch you use on daily base and see how you get on .
Buy campingstuff afther a few first trips when you know your needs ...you'll end up with lots of unnececary stuff otherwise.

We‘ve got two boxes in the back.
- ATM: Box 1 firewood, box 2 cable and cadac.
- Kitchen-Cupboards: Tea, pasta, spices, plates, pan and more.
- Between the seats we use (thanks @hotel california) some boxes to store the battery charger, flashlight, sunglasses...

- In spring/summer we often change fire box with bike box (helmet, protectors...).

Firewood?

Oh I much prefer to use the auxiliary heater, I find the smell of soot and smoke in the van a little off-putting :shocked
