The approach is along a narrow, winding road, but once there everything is good. The staff at Reception are friendly and speak English.
It is a lovely site with the most fantastic views of mountains and the sea. The coastal path can be accessed from the site. Brilliant hikes from site.
The facilities were very good with new and very clean shower blocks. Even a dog shower. The spotless baby/toddler shower/toilets separate unit.
The on site shop was well stocked and there was fresh bread every morning. There is a restaurant bar next door with a menu in English. The view from bar/restaurant & swimming is glorious . Expansive view of the oceans/mountains.
The site is well placed for many interesting seaside towns, the nearest being Deba, which has a really good beach. It is also only just over an hour away from Bilbao. Thirty minutes from San Sebastián.
Ask for a medium pitch with a view. Can use ASCI card.

We are heading to La Paz tomorrow and then looking for somewhere in the Picos De Europa national park.
Have a great trip and give us a wave if you see us ;)

Will wave. Seen few Calis.

We are heading to La Viorna in the Picos on Thursday for 6 days. . Apparently a La Vuelta (bike race) is going to Santo Toribio on Thursday ,so some roads to picos/Potes may be closed between 3 to 6/7pm .

We were going to La Paz,but unsure dogs allowed on beach . Good to hear your feedback.
Found this site on ASCI app ,very helpful . Another brilliant coastal walk today.

Picos, great to wander through.....

We like walking with dogs. Surprisingly weatherforecast slightly cool in the Picos but less rain than coastal regions .
Also like to stop for several days. Set up camp & explore the area.

Now in the Picos Mountains at La Viorna near Potes. Will review after stay.
So far excellent. Perfect view of mountains.

A bit hairy driving the narrow roads up yesterday . I shut my eyes & try not to scream  . The La Vuelta finished in Potes yesterday. We met all the team huge buses, support vehicles, large white whales, police cars hurtling down the opposite way !!!!
Met fellow forum members (first time) Soulstyledevon, who came over with a very friendly hello.

Confirmed. Good site, easy walk to Potes (very nice town) and on the edge of the Picos De Europa national park.

Nice to meet you guys. If you need anything, please let us know:thumb

Oops, double post.

So beautiful here in Camping La Virona , can see mountains from our pitch.
Can use ASCI card , 19 euros.

Helpfully been given a guide of walks in the area by reception.
Many are local,so no need to use cali. We actually starting to chill.

There is a walk up to the monastery from the site ,which can be a circular one.
Can't taken dogs in the cable car from Fuente DE but can parking there & do a 2hr walk (on local map).
There is a local vet in Potes. Reception will arrange. Dogs need worming before return to UK.

Camping La Viorna tends to fill up by the end of day . Best to arrive morning for a choice of pitch.

Excellent. Bookmarked and will be paying it a visit. Next week or so.....

Worth visiting the Funnicular Train outside Arenas.
It takes you to a village surrounded by mountains. It's spectacular, loads of walking routes and dogs can take the train, providing they wear a muzzle.

These are amazing - thank you. Starting to adjust ideas of what we want - a stay in the mountains/hills sounds like the way to go!
