Hi

Am "going home" for a tour of Northern Ireland. I emigrated to England a few years ago :D Will be stopping near Bangor Co Down in the family house but would love to explore the rest. Will definitely be stopping near Enniskillen so would love to hear where people have stayed. We will be their back end of July so will need to book ahead and we are a family of 4- 2 adults and 2 ankle biters :thanks

Hi,

We're just back from Tollymore Forest in Down, was a great location for walks, will be back there again to explore further. We're based near Omagh, so not stayed too close to Enniskillen, but did stay at Ballyshannon a few weeks ago, the campsite was nice enough and a 10-15 minute walk from the town.

Hope that helps!

Thank ever so much for your reply. Tollymore will be added to the list. Thinking of staying near Garrison Co Fermanagh as there are family links there. Please keep the recommendations coming!

Castle Archdale Forrest Park has a site right down by Lough Erne (Fermanagh) Safe for cycling and walking and water activities. https://www.castlearchdale.com/stay/camping. Have been there early in the season but would say it is very busy in July. Other sites also in the area are very good. Rushin House Caravan Park on Lough Melvin is excellent and close to the Marble Arch Caves.

Just back from our trip. 14 nights and 5 campsites split between Scot;and and Northern Ireland. By far the best campsite was Rushin House near Belcoo Co fermanagh. Would recommend highly. Thanks for the pointers!

@chez786 could you list your route and campsites and wether you would visit them again.
We are thinking of going to N Ireland October and so far have
Giants causeway via dark hedges
Belfast (maybe Titanic outside as with dog)
Then really interested in your route or suggestions from forum members?

@gvick you may want to move your date from Oct to Sept as quite a lot of sites close up end of Sept. If you are going to Giants Causeway it's worth doing the scenic coastal route and taking in Dunluce Castle, Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge and the Bushmills distillery, also some GOT sites where filming was done around Balintoy. The site at Bushmills is worth a visit https://www.ballynesscaravanpark.com/about.
Sites at Cushendall and Cushendun are also nice right by the sea on the coastal route and if down that way then Glenariffe Forest Caravan Park is worth a visit
Can also recommend the site at Castleward (National Trust) on Stangford Lough, you can take your dog and plenty of places to walk, again Game of Thrones site re filming (Winterfell)
Trust this is of some help
Regards
M

To go to Northern Ireland and do not the above would be a big miss. Worth adding Portbradden to your list when around the Causeway & Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge - small little cove / harbor. Portstewart and Downhill also worth a visit ....

@M&J and @Scoobz1 thank you both for your suggestions
I like the route you suggested nw just need to check if sites are open as unfortunately can’t change holiday dates due to work:thumb

If travelling to Downhill / Mussenden Temple, you should take the route towards Limavady along the Bishop's Road, for beautiful views of the entire Magilligan Peninsula and Donegal beyond across the Foyle Estuary.
I can recommend The Cabin in Carnlough for fish and chips en route!!

If your visit extends to Co Down, Portaferry and Strangford on Strangford Lough are worth a visit, as are the nearby National Trust properties, Castleward and Mount Stewart.

Rushin House Caravan Park - Co Fermanagh was really lovely. Probably one of the best campsites I have stayed at. Fermanagh id the Lake District in N Ireland.
We also stayed at Skerries Caravan Park Portrush- which was truly dreadful. I would look at other options .
I am and from Co Down and we still have the family home so didnt camp there. However Newcastle etc is a lovely place to visit.
Hope this helps , do ask if you want any other info

If looking for a site that works for a Belfast visit (city centre / City Hall / Titanic / Stormont Assembly Buildings) the site at Jordanstown Loughshore Park is a nice one. If anyone is into cycling, there is also a route along the shores of Belfast Lough right to the Titanic Museum, and if the mood takes you there is a fabulous cycle path via CS Lewis Square out to Comber via the Comber Greenway.
