Carrying a tandem on the bike rack on the back

Has anyone been able to successfully make some adaptation/addition to their bike rack so that they can transport a tandem? We don’t want to put it on the roof.
We have the usual VW kylie type rack which we use for single bikes.
Our thoughts are to rig up something that would hold the bike in a more vertical position on the back.

We put our tandems on the roof. If you want your tandem on the rear I would suggest a tow bar carrier and strap it vertically to your Kylie with the Kylie in the closed position.
